Loobylou: If I were you, I'd go back to the ortho and have him cut the wire for you. It only takes a second. You'll be glad you did! And thank you everyone for the replies to my questions. I've been having problems with the cleats on my molar bands tearing up the back of my tongue. The problem comes...

Phos-Flur and saltwater questions

I just have 2 quick questions about a couple things: First, is saltwater supposed to help heal sensitive teeth when they're "on the move", or does it only help to heal irritated cheeks and toungues from the sharp edges of brackets and molar bands? Second, what do you think of a flouride ri...

I'm with you on that! It seems that a tooth will hurt, then stop hurting, then others hurt, then the first one hurts again.....it doesn't seem to end! I've had teeth hurting that I really wish would stop because it made eating something so difficult, and then it would stop but then start hurting lat...

That you everyone for your helpful and encouraging replies! I guess I don't have that far to go til mine get better. I've actually gotten used to the restrictions I've been living with, but it sure will be nice to feel like I can eat normally again. Not being able to do something as simple as going ...

Will front teeth always hurt?

Now that I've had my braces for over 5 weeks, I'm wondering about my front teeth pain. It's been there since the beginning and hasn't gotten any better. I've given up eating anything I have to take a bite out of such as cheeseburgers, bannanas, etc. and can only eat what I can put in my mouth with a...

I opted for a blender for my drinks. I know what you mean about it being harder to eat now. It seems we have to redo our entire diet, doesn't it?

It's seems like everybody I see that has buck teeth stays buck toothed (Quote) It sure as heck better NOT be that way! I have the buck toothed problem myself and it makes it hard to close my mouth all the way, and having braces on makes it even harder. If I'm going to stay this way or get worse by h...

My ortho says certain gums are alright--even recommended. Karefree Koolers is the one the office recommends chewing. I won't do it yet because chewing is still no fun even after a month in braces. I keep biting my cheek and lip.

Yeah, that choking thing sometimes happens to me too. I can't move my mouth the same way anymore, so when I want to swallow, I'm not doing it quite right, and I come close to choking, even when I'm just drinking.

Well, it might take a couple weeks like it did for me to really enjoy food again. In the meantime, it seems like a chore to have to eat, right? That's how I saw it! Believe me, as everyone told me, "you will get used to it". That may be small comfort right now, but time is the healer when ...

I have to admit I don't chew it up as well as I used to now that I have different teeth bothering me each day making it painful to chew. I try to eat things now that don't need to be chewed, or at least not very much.

I've been told it's a bad idea for the very reason you gave. The whitening form the toothpaste cannot affect the area of your teeth under the brackets, so when they come off, the whitening will be uneven.

I understand your frustration! Your ortho tells you one thing at your consultation, and then when treatment begins, it all turns out differently. That makes a person feel like they can't trust what they're told!

I had the same problem; wax won't stay on, so many sharp edges. I'd go back to the ortho like I did and ask them to smooth out the sharp edges for you. The have a special tool that looks like a Dremel tool that they use for that purpose. With the sharp edges smoothed out, you won't have them poking ...
