New braces today, with surprises!

Just a few hours ago, I got braced. I thought this would be the end of having new things put in my mouth, but as I mentioned before about how orthos come up with last minute surprises, they had one for me. They said they will have to install a second set of molar bands in all 4 corners of my mouth. ...

January 31st is my braces day!

I'll let you know the next day how it all goes. That's assuming I'm not too self-consious about going out in public. I use a public internet computer at the public library. I just may not want to show my face around here for awhile!

Well, to be fair, it wasn't just the ortho himself I was talking to, but I assume that my file at the office has the same information on me for everyone I talk to to read. First, it was the ortho I talked to, then the treatment coordinator, then an assistant, then a receptionist who answered the pho...

I opted for a blender in which I put spinach, pinto beans and apple juice. Makes a good vegetable drink and provides most of nutrients you'll need. But like KK said, a multivitamin is also a good addition.

For what it's worth, my ortho said "I don't think you'll be needing headgear". I just hope he's right. I wouldn't even want to bother with something like that!

I wish ortho would be straight with me!

It's nice to know what your treatment will be before it begins so you know whether you want to go through with it, right? You want to be informed! Well, before I started, I asked ALOT of questions. I asked if soda pop was OK and said I only have maybe 3 cans a week. First, the ortho said to stay awa...

I smile quite a bit less, even when alone. That's because smiling causes my cheeks to be cut by my molar bands, which hurts. Nothing to smile about there!

KK:

And a "thank you" also from me! Just today, I decided to go without the wax as long as I'm not eating to make the process go faster of toughening up my cheek. But if that doesn't make any difference, then I'll put the wax back on and be a happier camper as a result.

Dental wax on, dental wax off!

I just had to say that! But my question is: Is it ok to use wax over and over again? I put a blob of it on each of my upper molar bands so they don't scrape up my cheek, and to keep me from biting my cheek with the bands (ouch!). I leave it there all day until I brush at night when I temporarily rem...

Huon: As far as the cleats, they bent them down when they put them on at the ortho's office. I asked about grinding them off, and she told me they don't ever do that. I will ask about putting a lig on the brackets, although my appt. for braces installation is on the 31st. I may be able to just wait ...

Today is pretty much the same as the others. I had oatmeal this morning as ususal, but I don't try chewing it. I just swish it around my mouth a little and then swallow. Each day I've done this and have still managed to bite my cheek somehow. Very, very frustrating!

Hey Notbob1:

I've got some good news for you! When I asked my ortho about those cleats, she said that they aren't as irritating once the bands are attached to them. I guess that means the same for me with those elastic hooks on the side of my molar bands too.

Barbaric indeed! Obviously, whoever designed these things never had them put in their own mouths. I'm going to ask my ortho about that lig thing you mentioned. That may be just the thing I need. I can't even put my teeth together without my cheek getting pinched, so that means I can't even chew food...
