Molar bands are on now. Not Good!

OK everyone, my molar bands are on, and I'm regretting it! The process of putting them on wasn't really painful. They had to try a few different sizes on one of my teeth because, apparently, one of my spacers had come out and I didn't know it, but they got it done. But now is when the painful proces...

Hmmm...sounds simple enough. Thanks, Swan! BTW, I guess they'll be taking out my spacers that I have in now. There shouldn't be anything hard about that, I suppose. I'll let you know how the molar band thing goes. Although I'm not looking forward to having metal in my mouth for the next 2.5 years be...

Luxekitty: Didn't the ortho tell you that you'd need a TPA when you had your first consultation? I would think they'd be required to tell EXACTLY what they intend to do BEFORE you start your treatment. I'm at the same stage of treatment as you are right now. I hope my ortho doesn't have any surprise...

Thank you, Luxekitty! It sounds like it isn't all that bad. I've heard stories about how terrible it can be. I also hear that those cleats on the back of them can really tear up the tongue. I'll ask if they can remove those prior to putting on the bands. I wonder if they'll do it, or say something l...

How are molar bands done?

I'm having molar bands put on in about 2 hours from now. It's currently 11:23am CDT.

What exactly do they do for the 40 minutes that the appointment is supposed to last for?

Thank you everyone! I thought the pain was going to start getting worse, but so far it hasn't. It does hurt if I bite all the way down, and it's hard not to when chewing. So far I've only had oatmeal, yogurt and a blender drink consisting of spinach, beans, a raw egg, and apple juice. Not the best t...

Flora2006:

I'm scheduled to get the molar bands next Tuesday, and the braces themselves will be going in on Jan. 31st.

I feel like my mouth is "not my own anymore", you know what I mean?

Spacers in yesterday

I've finally begun the process....the 8 spacers were put in yesterday at about 2:20pm. The pain didn't begin until about 5am the next morning, and it only hurts when I bite down. The real problem was when the assistant was putting them in. She used a metal device that looked like pliers that spread ...

Orangemustang: I'm sorry to hear about your painful experience! It seems very common for people to have problems with those cleats on the braces. I wonder why they put them there in the first place!?!? I'm going to ask if I can have mine ground down at the beginning. I sure hope they'll do it instea...

Tomorrow is my big day. I'll let you know how it all goes. I can't believe I'm really going through with this! But now that I've gotten 4 teeth extracted in preparation for it, it's kind of hard not to do it now!

Thank you all for your support! :D

SSFW---Thank you! It's nice to know that it may not be as bad as I've heard from others. They are scheduled to be in for 1 week, just like yours.

Brooke and Mackenzie---Well, at least I'll be safe for the day, or at least for the first few hours! :D

How long before spacers hurt?

I just wanted to quickly ask how long it takes before spacers become painful enough to make it hard to eat. I have an appointment for Wednesday and was planning on going out to supper with my Dad afterwards but don't know if that will be something I'll feel like doing or not. So just how long does i...
