Thank you all for your insights on this matter! Just FYI, I am 36 years old, so I'm no longer a teenager or in my 20s. I mainly got the braces because my dentist said I had overcrowding problems that would lead to more problems down the road. I got braces because I wanted to keep my teeth for as lon...

Would it be bad to debrace early?

After being told long ago by my ortho that I might be able to get my braces off at the end of April 2007, he then changed it to "a few more months", then he said "around Christmas", and now he's saying the end of January, which is exactly my 2 year point. I'm afraid if I wait til...

Thank you everyone for your input! It looks like I should keep wearing them. It kind of sucks having them in because they go from the tooth on either side of the front teeth, down to the first molar. That makes them quite visible when I talk. I guess I can try it out and see what happens anyway.

Ok to stop elastics temporarily?

I'm supposedly going to a family reunion (first time for me, so they will all be strangers at first) and I really don't want everyone seeing my elastics every time I talk to them. I would be there for 4 days. I'm supposed to wear my elastics all the time, which I've been doing, although it's been ma...

Thank you for all the replies and information! The pain has eased quite a bit. The idea of the tooth next to the one being turned isn't something I had considered. My ortho has been changing an archwire every adjustment appointment. On one visit, he does the top, then the bottom the next time. I'm s...

Need help about getting a tooth torqued

I hope I spelled torqued correctly. It means "turned". I have an upper eye tooth that has a big bump above it high up on the gum. The ortho said it's part of the root and he said he could torque the tooth during my last adjustment to make that bump go down. The torquing would be done by a ...

Thanks for the replies! I guess I should have mentioned that I'm pretty far along with my treatment. I'm about 1 year and 4 months into it. That's what kind of surprises me that I'm starting to have this problem now.

Uh Oh! Got a sensitive tooth now!

Ever since my last adjustment 3 weeks ago, which involved a wire change on my lowers, I've had a bicuspid tooth on my lower right side giving me problems. It is very temperature sensitive to cold drink, and sometimes is pressure sensitive. I feel the pain all the way down to the bottom of my chin, m...

It funny how it could either be a tooth's root, or just bone. I'll be relieved when I see my ortho on April 4th and he finally gets to look at it firsthand, rather than hearing my description over the phone. An xray would be even better though.

I'd say I've been using the elastics for 6 or 8 months. I don't exactly remember when I started.

I hope your ortho appointment brings you encouraging news! :)

I was wearing them all the time, but now I've decided to wear them about 16 hours a day. I tried doing it just at night, but then my teeth would be hurting during the day because they're so used to the elastics being there. Kind of like when the ortho takes your ties off during an adjustment, the te...

First of all, thank you to everyone for your replies! I don't have a digial camera to show you any pictures, but Clo, the way way you described what you have, "you can see almost the whole tooth, from crown to the end tip of its root. That end tip is sharp, hence this is why my bump is now so s...

HERE'S AN UPDATE: Clo, I called my ortho yesterday and got ahold of the treatment coordinator. I can't actually talk to the ortho when I call, so I had to deal with her only. I told her about my situation and told her about buccal exostosis and that I was very concerned about it. She said she's neve...

OMG! :o Now I'm really scared! I didn't know it might be such a bad thing. I'm going to be calling my ortho ASAP! I'll let you know what he says. He'll probably say, "Let's set up an appointment", which is a good thing, but not exciting to report.
