I had a problem develop with TMJ that would not allow me to open my mouth. After around six months of treatment with a splint to allow the muscles to settle down, I had braces fitted top and bottom. After three years my bit was great and I was fitted with a retainer that also was a splint. My teeth ...

My two cents; go for the ceramics and enjoy them, improve your bite and appearance, you'll be glad you did. I had ceramic on both top and bottom. My ortho said it didn't make any difference in the length of time I would have them. I also got married with them on and in the photos it is tough to tell...

I had the same experience. My top retainer loosened up after a couple of weeks. I called my ortho about the bottom retainer and he had me come in so he could adjust it so it came out more easily. (He wanted it really tight so I would not take it out too much.)

After a year you really wanted to put them back on....and for 2 more years? With that much movement, didn't you notice changes before your one year check...did it not bother you? The first time I had braces on there was really a lot of movement during treatment. When the braces came off, I worked w...

I had braces for three years and got them off. Faithfully wore my retainer for a year and went in for one year check. Surprise! The ortho that did the work was no longer with that dental group and there was a new ortho (he left somewhere between 6 and 12 month check). The new ortho wasn't happy with...

I had the same problem caused by TMJ. (That's why I've had braces twice.) You may want to ask your ortho or regular dentist if they thinnk TMJ may be your problem and refer you to a specialist that deals with it. For me, my bite really complicates whether I have the clicking/pain or not.

At one point I was loosing them regularly too, so my ortho just gave me some to take home and replace them myself. It was easy to do and much less trouble than trying to get back to the ortho's office.

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. Tied in means the ortho wired the facebow to the brackets so the facebow could not be removed. (As far as I know it isn't done much anymore.) Both were in high school at the time. One got his headgear off as a junior and the other as a senior. The other friend was in c...

Your ortho perscribed 20 hours a day because of the extent of your overbite. 10-12 hours a day will not produce the same results as 20+hours a day. It may seem extream, but it's what is needed. If you are uncomfortable with that much time have a conversation with your ortho to see if there are optio...
