Did you keep your braces?

They unexpectedly took my braces off last Wednesday, hooray! When it was all over the assistant asked me if I wanted to keep my braces. I said sure, and now they're sitting on my dresser in a plastic bag. So has anyone ever kept their braces? What did you do with them? I'm thinking of gluing them to...

I grin at every car window I pass by so I can see my reflection. I probably look like a total freak, but I don't care! I have Essix retainers, too.

My last ortho just wrote a letter of transferral and stuck it in my records when we moved. He didn't take anything off. Unless the new orthodontist uses something drastically different from the last, I don't think it would be a problem to leave them on. YMMV

. . . and it hurt so bad (even with novocaine) that I thought he was mad at me Aww! What a cute/sad way to describe it. I think it was around lunchtime or the end of the day when he put the wire in, because I remember wondering if he was mad at me for keeping him from leaving. :P But I wasn't...

I was just going to say, Chloraseptic spray might be your best bet.

Ice watermaybe? I always found that something cold makes my sore throat feel better. Plus it keeps you hydrated, which is pretty important when you're getting sick.

I had the same thing happen when I had my canine exposure. The ortho was putting a wire in to help pull the tooth down, and it hurt so bad (even with novocaine) that I thought he was mad at me. Having five teeth pulled didn't hurt that badly.

I didn't even know I was getting my braces off. I switched doctors when I moved, and the new one asked me what I wanted to do. It's been almost three years, I said take 'em!!! For me it was just a matter of the ortho having time to take the braces and sand the cement off. He took a few minutes getti...

I had a huge gap between two of my teeth after my surgery. The doctor adjusted my wires, and after a month there was a gap, but my front teeth were banging together, and my back teeth didn't touch at all. In order to fix that he put some kinks in my wires...and now the gap is back. Sometimes things ...

With the original plan I was going to have jaw surgery around February of 2007. Instead, I had it on March 7, 2008. It was really getting to the point where I was like, "Whatever, just do this thing already." The good thing was that once they said I was ready, everything moved very, very f...

I wish we got rewards. I broke one bracket (while I was brushing my teeth!), haven't missed or rescheduled a single appointment (they rescheduled for me once, not my fault), and they always say it looks like I'm taking good care of my teeth. Of course, I'm also getting to the angry cynic stage of my...

I've found that my teeth don't hurt as much after adjustments as they used to. But the past few months have been kind of different because of my surgery. The adjustments leading up to it were mostly just a lig change, so there wasn't much pain afterwards. And now they're just kind of fine-tuning thi...

When I was in eighth grade I had a teacher with braces. It was unusual seeing an adult with them, but I think the real reason I noticed so much was because I wanted braces for myself so badly. People noticed (I remember the students talking to her about problems with their braces, relating experienc...

I was told it would be about 27 months. That date has come and gone, and there's no end in sight. I'm seriously ready to just have them off and be done with it.

I've never had that appliance, but wrt lisping and speech problems, the only way I've found to make that better is to practice talking. I always sing in the car on the way back from the ortho. It helps me get used to the way things are in my mouth. I'm sure eating will be weird, too. I've had ...

I know that your regular ortho is hours away, but in an emergency situation could you go to someone else? This happened when I chipped my tooth on a weekend. My regular dentist wasn't open on Saturday, so we found someone who was. It may even be possible for a regular dentist to reapply your retainer.
