Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

I've had my consultation with an expert orthodontist. I have a 5mm overjet as a result of Six Month Smiles. That's pretty hard core. I need a healthy tooth out and up to 3 years of corrective traditional orthodontic treatment. Please ask your dentist about crowding before you go for Six Month Smiles...

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

I don't believe my treatment - or the result - would have been any different even if I'd paid full price. If I though that for a moment, I'd report her to the GDC. Yes, I'm pretty sure I won't have any trouble getting a refund. (My daughter is a dentist and I'm aware of how quickly they cough up at ...

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

You're exactly right. I wouldn't have gone ahead. Unfortunately, I used a Groupon offer. Therefore any refund will go nowhere near the cost of corrective traditional orthodontic treatment. And the thought of more braces :-( It took all my courage to do the SMS. Not a great situation. Driven by my ow...

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

It's marketed as a quick fix for the social six. The brackets are tooth-coloured. It takes an average of six months. And it works very well for many people.

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

It works for many people. Unfortunately, the result I have is not uncommon. The problem is that the dentist didn't warn me. If I'd known what the result would be, I wouldn't have gone ahead. I do feel the dentist was negligent in that respect. So I'm afraid I may well be making a claim against her, ...

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

Thank you but I think the best I can hope for is that he'll recommend a course of hideously expensive orthodontics. :-/

Oh, I've also been left with a lisp. Upset about that too.

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

Yes, exactly.

I have an appointment with a very good orthodontist next week. I'll see what he recommends.

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

Actually an anterior overbite. Sorry, wrong terminology.

I did have a slight overbite. But nothing like this. I did not need my bite fixed. I had a slightly overlapping left lateral incisor. That's fixed. Just that I look like Bugs Bunny now.

Re: 6 Month Smiles braces going on next weekend

Had my brace off this morning. I feel so sad. My teeth are straight but I'm left with what I feel is a ridiculous and distinctive anterior open bite. I could cry. :-(

Re: Foods that stain clear ligatures?

As well as the usual (curry, coffee, red wine, tomatoes, blueberries, etc.), beware of chocolate! No one warned me about that! Make sure you use mouthwash straight afterwards and brush as soon as you can.

Re: How often do you get professional cleanings with braces?

I'm having my teeth cleaned at every other appointment, so every 6-8 weeks. The cost makes me wince a bit but I don't care!

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

My brace is also a birthday present to myself - my 50th (in a few months. I'm hoping it'll be off by then)! I had no real problems, just a naughty little top upper-left "fang-type" incisor that overlapped my front tooth a little. It had been getting worse and worse over the last 20 years s...
