Re: Poll: Braces as an Adult versus Adolescent
I wonder if modern day insurance is covering orthodontics more than it used to back in the 80’s, which is when I suspect a lot of us were teenagers. I know my older sister had braces, but she had jacked up teeth. Mine weren't so bad so we didn't really persue it for me the first place. Similarly, m...

Re: Poll: Braces as an Adult versus Adolescent
Probably a teen/child tbh. Mainly because of my issue (open bite). I am hoping, but I may not be able to fix it without surgery now that I am an adult and I could have gotten away with just braces as a child. However, I have heard many stories of people that had braces as a child having to get them...

Re: Poll: Braces as an Adult versus Adolescent
I think the big thing is that as an adult, you appreciate the need to take the process seriously because of the cost and the commitment. As a teenager, perhaps it seems like just another thing your parents made you do but you don't care about. As an adult, it took me years to get up the will to do ...

Re: Doubling up on elastics
Congrats on you seeing progress! Sorry about the double elastics though. The pain will soon wane and you will not know what life is like without them.

Poll: Braces as an Adult versus Adolescent
Yesterday my boyfriend (who of course was born with practically perfectly straight teeth) and I were having a lively discussion on the pros and cons of having braces as an adult versus as an adolescent. As such I felt it would be most appropriate to pose such a question to the forum. :D Please vote ...

Hang in there. It will go away. I had all four removed at the same time on my birthday weekend in the dead of winter.

Re: What could extra long appointments mean?
I agree with the prior posters. My extra long appointments have been for numerous reasons including, but not limited to, filing of my teeth, steel ties, repositioning of brackets, etc. Nothing to be scared of though. I have found it to be a wild and fun roller coaster.

Re: Help! Flossing is a disaster!!
I recommend the braces specific floor that has straight ends. It seemed to help allot when it came to flossing, especially when I am places without my Waterpik. Over that however I more so recommend investing in a WaterPik. It has changed my life.

Re: How to stop worrying about the outcome?
If you can, perhaps just put your concerns out there and see what your ortho says. The good news is that changes occur slowly so you'll have time to assess as time goes on; the bad news is that sometimes things get worse before they get better (gaps, bite, etc.) Best of luck to you. I agree with Da...

Re: How often do you smile since you got braces?
According to my boyfriend I smile more. I shamelessly use my braces to look cute to get my way. Something about braces causes folks to give me a break on things.

Re: I don't like my braces
Yes - they do feel bulky at first but eventually your mouth will get used to them. Oddly enough I find them to be a great conversation starter. People tend to be quite interested.
