I've been thinking of posting what you just did, I'm in the exact same situation. I had double jaw surgery about 9 weeks ago and I can't taste meat, salt, etc very well at all but anything sucrose is like it always was. I can taste tomato, onion and such just fine, so perhaps try dishes with those? ...

Every surgeon is different but generally you'll get an xray or two, they'll examine it quickly then look at you quickly and tell you whether they think you'll benefit from surgery or not. They'll also likely tell you whether it'll be single or double jaw surgery and roughly what the movements might ...

Your ortho will have you make an appointment with your surgeon when he thinks you're surgically ready, that's when you do the pre-op stuff -- if the surgeon agrees with the ortho.

Sounds like you need to find a new surgeon. Filing an appeal is very routine for any surgeons office which handles jaw surgery cases and this is a big red flag to me.

I also went the private insurance route and chose Aetna, they've been nothing but excellent so far. Pre-approved everything in a timely manner, only hang up was they approved only 1 day in the hospital but my surgeons office quickly got them to ok another when I was in.
