Re: Resting lips on braces !
I think it would help with your anxiety to discuss this with your orthodontist. I'm not sure of the state of your bite pre-treatment, but in general if your bite is off and then made perfect by braces, lips will look better as a byproduct. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Palatal Expansion at age 19
Palatal expansion (e.g. SAPRE) will absolutely help reduce mouth breathing. The maxilla is the 'floor' of the nose, and widening it will directly widen your nasal passageways. In my case, my jaw surgery included a 3-piece segmented le-fort 1 osteotomy which widened my maxilla and eliminated the need...

Re: warning: braces changed my face for the worse before having jaw surgery
In order to perform jaw surgery, an oral surgeon may instruct the orthondontist (or vice-versa) to position the teeth in a specific configuration in order to: a) Make the surgery easier for the surgeon. E.g. positioning the roots of teeth away from the locations of cuts in bone. b) Set the teeth up ...

Re: Please HELP!!!!!! JAWS NEED ADVICE!!!!!
See if you can get one of the surgeons to make a computer generated 'after' image for you. Dr. Relle in Los Angeles made one for me. The advancement might look better than how you think it would - especially if they do both jaws and ccw rotation.

Re: June Surgery Buddies
My surgery with Dr. Relle in LA is July 7th. I'm getting a 3-piece lefort & ccw bsso (i.e. maxillomandibular advancement) for sleep apnea and an anterior open bite.

Re: Is this right - Gunson/Arnett
Hi SantaBarbarian, thanks for your post, it's extremely helpful as I'm getting ready to have surgery with Dr. Relle (also out-of-network) in Los Angeles this summer for sleep apnea/uars & anterior open bite. I'm around the same age and build as you, and still wake up many, many times per night o...

Anywhere to obtain a list of BCBS jaw surgeons? (in LA)
Are there any ways of obtaining a list of all BCBS orthognathic surgeons in Los Angeles? I'm halfway through my pre-surgical orthodonotics with Dr. Relle, but due to the $21,000 quote for the surgery* I want to see if there's someone else in-network worth considering. I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to sti...
