Removable Expander(s)?

At my last ortho visit I had my upper and lower expanders removed because they had been "maxed out". I was hoping that I would be done with them forever since I've had them on for 8 months but my ortho told me that I need a second set and that this time they will be removable. Has anyone e...

I am the palate expander nightmare queen. I've gone through 3 of them so far. The same thing happened to me except mine was digging so hard that I couldn't sleep, it hurt so badly. Make an emergency appointment. That should NOT be doing that. When I went in and my ortho saw how it was digging into t...

Hello, I felt compelled to post a response because your story really affected me. I can totally relate to how you've felt all your life about your teeth. Always being self concious, low self esteem, not wanting to smile, fear of dentist/ortho..everything. I am 28 and i got my braces on last year. Th...

I'm getting married next year and will be getting my braces taken off if I still have to wear them. (Fingers crossed that I don't!)
I made my ortho aware of the situation when I went in for my very first consult and she said it wouldn't be a problem.

Hey Yoda,
Your post caught my eye because i'm 28 also. I also had my wisdoms taken out and then braces put on. Ouch!
I hope that you're feeling better by now. It does get easier. Promise!

Haas Expander Question

I've had a Haas expander in for almost a month now. I initially had a Hyrax but had nothing but problems with it. (I went through two of them because they both broke before my ortho decided to try something new and go with the Haas). Since I don't do anything with the Haas (no turning a key), my que...

I felt compelled to respond to this because I plan on getting married in the next 2 years and I may have my braces on still. I asked my ortho when I was going through the consults and she said that she can take the braces off for me during that time and then put them back on afterwards with no probl...

Your post hit a little too close to home for me as I had the same experience with my RPE. I had to have an emergency removal also because of the appliance digging into my upper left side. It's been about 2 weeks and I still have indentations. I was told to rinse with walm salt water....it doesn't hu...

Well, I can tell you that you aren't alone. I myself have had nothing but problems with my treatment also. I had my 4 wisdoms removed 2 weeks before getting my braces put on. I develped one dry socket. OUCH! I really feel for you as I know how painful that can be. So, the day I was to get my braces ...

Upper Palate Expander-I'm going on my 3rd one!

Hello All, I have a question, I was wondering if anyone has ever had any problems with their upper expanders? I have had a RPE in since November. The first one bent really badly and had to be taken out in December. I had a new one put on in late December and after about a week it was starting to rea...

I actually had 2 sets of impressions taken today. This is about my 6th time getting them done (long story). Anyhoo, I have a problem with gagging also but I've found that taking deep breaths in and out through my nose really helps. Try focusing on other things, maybe something fun like where would I...

I would have to agree that expanders are the worst. I have a rapid palate expander on top and an Arnold expander on the bottom and they both are very hard to deal with.
