Yeah, my ortho did mention some "levelling off" of my teeth (mainly because I asked about it! :D ) but he wants to wait a little while in case things "settle in" a little bit, so we only have to do it once.

As for whether or not you would know ahead of time, you probably would, since your ortho would ask you to book a longer appointment than usual. I just got my braces off last week (hurrah!) and I was there for a while. The actual snapping off of the bands and brackets didn't take very long at all, bu...

Hey! Me three!!! I will also be gettiing my braces off May 2nd! Sounds like a day with good vibes... And my ortho also said I would be getting a Hawley retainer a week after braces removal. When I asked him if that was really okay, he smiled and said, yes, it's fine, that's how it usually works! I w...

Haha, yes, lovely sense of humour indeed! He's usually pretty good about answering my questions, though, and I never feel brushed off. I had to laugh at his reply though! As for what I had done, I suppose it hasn't taken that long because it was't all that complicated. I had several large spaces bet...

My poor ortho!!!

Hey everyone! Well, I had an interesting day, today! I went in for my regular two-week visit to my ortho (on a bright, sunny, warm day here in Montreal), and sat down in his chair, completely oblivious to what was about to happen. While he was working away, he suddenly told me I can have my braces o...

Ooo, ooo! Me too!!! I've been a vegetarian for... ummmm almost nine years now. Wow, time flies. And yes, on the iron thing: I do take a multivitamin, too, one with a good iron content. My mother's side of the family has a history of low iron, so I keep my eye on it. But just a couple of weeks ago I ...

Woohoo! I've been a veggie for almost eight years now! I was doubly relived to see my ortho's list of things I am not supposed to eat because not only is meat not an issue, but I'm not much of a sucker for sweets, either!

Wow, this is crazy, I have EXACTLY the same gap left in EXACTLY the same place! I started out with many big gaps (the whole reason for my treatment) and they have all closed, except this one. I have a very slightly tipped tooth, just like the one you're talking about, and I can't decide if that toot...

Hi! You could ask your ortho or your regular dentist about "bonding". I believe it's a material that bonds directly onto the teeth on either side. Sometimes this isn't feasible though because it will make your teeth look too large. I guess it depends on where the gap is?

Hi there! Yeah, I had a bite plate like that for three months before getting my braces in order to open up my bite enough. It was a royal pain in the you-know-what at the beginning, and unfortunately was only a little bit less of a pain by the time it was over. I remember when I was walking out of t...

Don't worry! My ortho is also the only person who touches my teeth. He has an assistant who works at the reception and also helps him clean around the office (oh, and she mixed the awful, awful gunk for taking my impressions), but he does all the tooth-related work. Right down to simple lig changes....

I got my braces this summer, and was thrilled to discover my dad's plan would cover me for 50%. The tricky part came when they clarified that I was only covered as long as I was a full-time student. My status as such officially ended August 31st, just two weeks after the braces went on! Yikes! Any p...

Hi! My ortho also asks to see me every two weeks. I also wondered if that was okay when I started reading here that peeople go much less frequently, but I'm not worried. In fact, it works out nicely since my powerchains stain pretty easily and it means I can get them changed more often! I don't know...

As far as I understand it, there are really two major types of non-metal braces. The ceramics are the ones your ortho is more likely to refer to as "tooth-coloured" as they are actually not clear, but white. Those are what I have, and I think they are most common. (By the way, people don't...
