I can floss again!
I have not been able to floss since I got my braces last September. The threader flosses did nothing but frustrate me to the point where I just gave up on it alltogether. The hygienist who did my last dental cleaning gave me a hard time about it, and my cleaning was pretty painful because of it. I g...

Thanks!! It only took him about 3-4 minutes (of course it seemed like forever) to get it out, and involved drilling off the parts of the appliance that are soldered to the braces. So there were 4 pieces to drill off alltogether (2 on each side). It didn't hurt, but it was uncomfortable. And i'll be ...

Yay! My expander came out today!!
I was in NOOOO mood to go to the ortho this morning at 7AM. It's snowing, I was grumpy, and the last thing I wanted was another adjustment. But I made it there, and was met with the happy news that he was going to take out my palatal expander today! I was supposed to be in it for 6 months, and today...

Jaw spasms
Is it normal to experience random jaw spasms? Seems to happen more often right after an adjustment, but I find myself randomly biting my tongue a lot more, or my teeth just randomly grinding together quickly. It hurts! Recap: Have had upper and lower ceramics since 9/05. Have a palatal expander whic...

Didn't expect this adjustment to hurt so darn much!
Today I had my second adjustment. The last one ended up being a piece of cake (all they did was replace the bands), so I was expecting more of the same. You know it's going to be a bad time at the ortho when, after hearing what the doctor wanted her to do to me this morning, the assistant lady hands...

I am also a drooler now that I have braces. I think it's just that your mouth doesn't shut all the way automatically now like it used to. Either way, you're right, it's super embarassing. And there's nothing more annoying when you're trying to fall asleep then realizing you have to turn the pillow o...

I have a Sonicare. Not the elite, though, it's an older model. I've had it for about 5 years now, and I still love it. In fact, I love it even more now that I have braces. Now, I can't even rely on a 'regular' toothbrush when I travel- I have to bring the Sonicare with me. Because the feeling your m...

Worst ever is indeed the palatal expander. I'm 3 months into my 6 month relationship with this thing, and I still hate it every day. Just when I thought i'd gotten used to everything that could possibly get stuck in this (nothing worse than a piece of spinach or something dangling in your mouth and ...

Embarassing Stories?
I've been having some jaw pain lately, especially at night. So I think I need to laugh a little bit. Here's an embarassing orthodontics-related story. Anyone else care to join in? So last month, i'm at this very swanky black-tie fundraiser in Boston, sitting at a table of co-workers and our dates. I...

New here!
Hi all! I'm new here, wanted to say hi... hope i'm posting this in the right place! I'm Julie, 26, live just outside of Boston. I've had braces for all of a month and a half now, and am surprisingly a lot better with it than I would have expected. So here's my story... I was 17 when I was told I nee...
