Hmm, I doubt bumpers have anything to do with it because they are just so braces don't bother you, but if you are not able to close your mouth , then are you breathing through your mouth instead of your nose? This is weird cause when I got braces I feel like it defined my jaw more

Any surgery regarding the face is highly risky, but if you find the right surgeon, I'm sure all is well. Nerves take almost about a year to full come back sometimes. Best of luck on your decision.

I do not think extractions should be required to patients who not suffer from bimaxillary protrusion. You should find a functional orthodontist who is able to expand the mouth rather than immediately require extractions.
