Re: Open bite & TMJ...considering braces/surgery
Definitely curious how your bite is progressing. I’m also in my 20s, had braces as a kid, and I didn’t have an open bite before treatment. But I was diagnosed with oral lichen planus in 2012, which is an autoimmune disease that affects mucus membranes, and my mouth went HAYWIRE. I had so much pain, ...

Re: Whats your story?
I originally got braces around nine or ten. My teeth were MESSED UP. I had the palate expander first, which was worse than the braces, to be totally honest! I was the only kid in my grade with braces, and then I needed glasses, so you can imagine the looker I was. I had one set of braces, then...

Re: Oral Lichen Planus and Relapse
So, UPDATE: My bottom teeth are now pretty much perfectly straight! I'm still wearing the bottom retainer, but now the orthodontist says I only have to wear it at night. My oral lichen planus has been up and down, flare ups and pain wise, which is nothing new when dealing with OLP. I went ahead and ...

Re: Oral Lichen Planus and Relapse
I have a trans palatal arch in my mouth, one side of the wire is cutting deep into the roof of my mouth. The roof of my mouth is swollen and bruised. Any tips? I don't have any experience with transpalatal arches, I'm sorry to say. The best thing I could offer is going back to the orthodontist and ...

Re: Confess your orthodontic sins.
Oh, man. I was in school and I used to brush religiously after a snack and lunch....but I only did that at school. I never did it at home, ROTFL! Even during field trips, I was a crazy person! But I NEVER flossed. Never. Never had a Water Pik, but our water had fluoride in it, so maybe that helped. ...

Re: Daily Change with Braces Video- Time Lapse
Wow, very cool indeed! I'd never have the motivation to do that. The best I got was a photo of the day I got my expander put in and the day it came out. spams would've made it a lot easier for me!

Re: Mouthwash vs no Mouthwash
I've tried them all! When I was in braces, I used Crest Pro-Health, and I didn't notice any staining with the brackets. I don't know if the ingredients were changed in 2008-2009, because I started getting terrible brown stains between my teeth and in any crevice, like someone else mentioned here. My...

Re: Just got braces on
Good luck to you! If I could offer any advice, make sure you get yourself some dental wax. Beeswax works too! And before you go for any adjustments, be sure to take some over the counter medications BEFORE you go. I learned that the hard way!

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?
I originally started orthodontic treatment when I was eight or nine, and I went the whole gambit. The expander and two sets of braces! Now I'm 24 and dealing with some relapse from not being able to wear my retainers for about four years, due to oral lichen planus.

Re: Do you spend more time looking at teeth?
Since I'm dealing with relapse now, I definitely spend too much time looking at people's teeth. I did it the first time around, because by the time I got my braces off, everyone else was getting theirs on. I don't tend to do it as much in public as I do when I watch TV--like when another user commen...

Re: Oral Lichen Planus and Relapse
Just thought I'd give a quick update! I've went in for two adjustments since my last post in October and my bottom teeth are straightening out pretty well. Definitely progress! I've been able to up the ante of wearing the bottom retainer, from eight to ten to twelve hours a day, usually when I'm sle...

Re: Oral Lichen Planus and Relapse
Oh, before I forget to ask, do you have any digestion problems? I've had acid reflux since the age of 10. I was under the impression lichen planus usually appeared in the mucus membranes, so your mouth, your genitals, etc, so I'm surprised it came out on your ankles and wrists first. I would've thou...

[quote="PinkPeep"]Thank you for replying to me as well! My dentist prescribed SLS free toothpaste by colgate and an extra soft post surgical toothbrush. These have helped a lot, but they do not clean my teeth very well. A few times a week, I resort to a regular soft toothbrush and regular ...

[quote="PinkPeep"]Hi Gina, I am sorry to hear you are going through this and I hope it clears up for you. I have OLP as well and it is a frustrating condition. I had octagon shaped purplish lesions suddenly appear on my ankles and wrists around January 2013. I thought I was getting bitten ...

[quote="sirwired"]A TPA is a "trans-palatal arch". It's simply a wire that runs across the roof of your mouth and attaches to an inner bracket on each side. I had one after jaw surgery to "prop" my palate open until I was done with braces and could be fitted with a Hawl...
