Re: BCBS and unrealistic criteria
I got approved by BCBS NY (Empire Plan) on the 2nd try, my surgeon or his staff knew exactly what to write and originally they denied it claiming that the jaw cant and misalignment needed to be as a result of a birth defect or accident. BCBS approved it on appeal, I didnt have to do anything my surg...

Re: Nose Frida for Post Surgery Congestion
What did wonders for me were the breathe right strips that you put over your nose. For the first 2-3 days congestion is going to be a pain, on day 4 it starts to ease up during the day but for me at night it was horrendous. On Day 6 I started using the breathe right strips after seeing it work for o...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
Hi everyone, just got my date for Nov 16th. Upper jaw advancement and lower jaw reduction. I'll have my consult with my surgeon next week to find out exactly what he'll be doing but I'm beyond relieved to get in as quickly as possible. Quick question: does swelling affect the time of recovery? Like...

Re: Best country for jaw surgery?
When researching the surgery before I got it I read through a few articles and medical papers. Alot of times the US and UK are used as metrics and apparently as much as 5% of the entire population of each country gets the surgery. South Korea does the surgery ALOT for cosmetic purposes however there...

Re: Best country for jaw surgery?
Actually slight correction on the above post, South Korea performs a significant amount of these surgeries as well but mainly for cosmetic purposes.

Re: Best country for jaw surgery?
Be aware that if you do this in another country alot of the rates people in those countries experience will be alot less than yours as most european countries (and canada, and Australia) have some sort of tax subsidized health scheme. If you are a foreign national you're going to be looking at a sub...

Re: Pain Management
Tylonel W/ Codene + Childrens Motrin. The motrin helps the swelling and the tylone W/Codene takes the edge off. I was on Dilaudid for the first night after having an IVRO and a Lefort 1. The hospital made it clear that if I wanted to go home it would have to be after observation without the dilaudid...

Re: Best country for jaw surgery?
It depends the agreement the hospital has with the insurance company and if the Doctor is also considered "in network" or "out of network." Also Stanford charging 150k might be the "chargemaster" price but not the actual out of pocket price, also remember some hospitals...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
I just got my measurements today for my jaw surgery tomorrow. It's a Lefort I with an IVRO and a genioplasty. He did not give me my genioplasty measurements but the largest movement is slightly above 1mm on my top jaw for the lefort. All the other movements are about .5 mm. The only reason I needed ...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
Hi all (suggested cross post from Summer surgery thread), I'm hoping for some emotional support here, having surgery in a week, originally was excited now very nervous. Having an IVRO, Lefort 1 and sliding genio to correct a major cant, minor chin relocation, and mandible reduction on the bottom jaw...

Re: Insurance Research Process & Recommendations
I would suggest doing research on the BCBS provider, they usually are the best bet when offered. I'm on bcbs throguh united, they are an "or" provider as well and even approved the genio for chin reconstruction after my surgeon appealed.
