Can I bargain to get my braces off early?
In November 2015, I was quoted a 24 month treatment time, with orthodontic surgery right at the 12 month mark. Healing from that went better than expected and I'm in love with my new smile and jaw. Everything looks great and has looked great, in my mind, for several months, but my orthodontist is a ...

Any facial changes a year post-op?
So I got my surgery last November (one week before Thanksgiving, which was a terrible choice. I definitely cried when I wasn't able to eat). Upper jaw advancement a few millimeters, lower jaw brought back by one or two, and both jaws tilted slightly. Here I am ten months post op, still with braces o...

Re: I am scared Post-Surgery
Don't panic. I went through all the same fears, and it all gets resolved. I had both upper and lower to fix an underbite, because my upper jaw was set too far back. I was ecstatic when the splint came out and I started working on soft foods, only to find that none of my back teeth even came together...

Signs the braces are almost off?
In November 2015, my ortho put my braces on, with an expected 24 month treatment time. In November 2016, I had double jaw surgery. I was expecting the usual 6 months of braces following jaw surgery, especially because I healed so quickly and everything looked so good--I was cleared for downhill skii...

Re: How Long before exercise after double jaw surgery?
My surgeon forbid me from any exercise for the first six weeks, and then light exercise after that. The reason, he explained, was not that my jaw was in danger of being hit or jarred with lifting weights, but rather that my body was favoring it in the process of healing it, which meant that our bodi...

Re: Oral Sex after Jaw Surgery ???
I managed it just fine at week 6! I could only my mouth about two and a half fingers, but there ended up being no issues. My partner was more nervous I'd get hurt than I was.

Re: Not Allowed to Use Ice / Heat at Home
I wasn't told not to use ice or heat at home, but I ended up not doing it anyway. In my experience with sports injuries, ice is only used to limit swelling and numb pain. By the time you're home, ice won't do much for the swelling and your pain would be managed much better by painkillers. As for hea...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
Any fast swelling strategies? I'm nearly six weeks post and I still have a bit of stubborn swelling that puffs up in the morning. I have some grand plans for New Year's Eve, so if I could minimize the swelling by as much as possible, that would be fantastic. Any ideas? Massages, contrast baths, diet...

Re: 14 days post op and feelings of major depression...
Check out Nathanael Eisenman on YouTube and look at his videos. He had much the same issue: in the weeks post surgery, he was disappointed with his chin and jaw because he felt that his relatively strong jaw had been reduced too much and looked awful, almost like he had an overbite. At 9-16 days, he...

Stitches!
I'm 16 days post OP--time flies--and all of my numbness is gone except for a spot in my nose and in my upper cheek, but both of those places have some sensation. The problem is, since I'm not numb, the stitches in my upper jaw are agonizing. At the front of my mouth, any time I smile or talk, the st...

Re: My daughter had double jaw surgery and it has all gone wrong!
I have had surgery 2 weeks ago and straight away I could tell that something wasn't right. My swelling has subsided extremely quickly according to my orthodontist. The hospital where my surgery took place is different to where the orthodontist is based. My surgeon has not seen me since my operation...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
Update, ten days out: I got my wires taken out yesterday, and to my surprise, the doctor removed the splint as well! She wasn't the surgeon who did the surgery, and my mother and I were a little confused, but she said that I ended up not needing the splint, so I suppose the surgeon must have made a ...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
[quote="littlebird"]Hi All, I have had a really rough time recovering. After the one nose trumpet was removed, I was fine for a couple days, then when I saw the surgeon this past Thursday he noticed that my septum had deviated again, so he inserted TWO nose trumpets to keep it in place. It...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
Hey everyone! I had DJS on the 16th and the doctors said it went really well, but they kept me an extra night in the hospital because I could not keep anything down, the nausea was not fun. I'm doing much better now, but my mouth feels so slimy, which makes it difficult to drink anything because I j...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies
Three weeks out! Met with my surgeon and his assume that was pretty surprising: he won't move my lower jaw back hardly at all, just rotate it/readjust it slightly and move my upper jaw forward+a two piece LeFort. Still a double jaw surgery and I'll be wired shut for about ten days, but it seems, jus...
