My othodontist used an abrasive strip to slenderise my teeth. It does feel odd and the teeth were sensitive for a while afterwards. However for me it was the only way to get rid of the black triangles and get the teeth to fit together properly.

Hi I have just had a bonded retainer fitted. The ortho told me that these do fail eventually (usually the glue cracks somewhere) and that if this happened to go in immediately so that he could reapair it for me. Do you have a removable retainer as well? If so I would wear this 24/7 till you can get ...

Hi |Hawa, I am almost at the end of my treatment (braces off on 5th of Feb). I had to go private and my braces journey will have cost £4,000 by the time I am finished, plus another £200 initial consultation fee. Very expensive, however mine was a complex case, required a hospital based consultant ...

Hi Frenchsmile, I had a bonded metal retainer fitted to my upper incisors just before christmas. The braces are due to come off on the 5th of february, but my ortho likes to fit the upper retainer early to ensure that there are no problems before debanding. For the first 24 hours it felt incredibly ...

Hi Kevin and downhillskier, I asked the ortho about how the other teeth are retained. Just as you said Kevin I will also have removable retainers to wear every night (for ever) to retain the other teeth. The ortho fitted the upper bonded retainer just before christmas - it took a few days to get use...

A question

Dear All, I am due to have my braces removed in about two months, the orthodontist intends to place bonded retainers on the upper and lower "front 6 teeth". The one thing I forgot to ask was - how are the molars retained if only the front teeth have a bonded retainer? I intend to ask him w...

Hi mandaluv
My ortho uses tie wires when he wants to increse the pressure on a certain tooth. Using wire can fix the bracket very firmly to the archwire. When he does this the tooth is generally tender for a few days, but not a major problem.

Hi Soo,
I am 43 with braces. A friend with whom I shared an office had braces (she would have been about 35) and there is one woman who works in one of our local shops (about 25) with braces. So a few of us down in the Salisbury area.

salt water

Salt is used widely in medicine. "Normal saline" (0.9%) is at or very close to the bodies' own concentration (often used to replace lost fluids in the form of an IV, or as a solution to irrigate and clean wounds without causing too much harm to the bodies own healing efforts). Stronger sol...

Welcome johnnya! Eating is definately interesting at the start of this journey. There are lots of suggestions for food (what is good or difficult to eat) on this board, so I would suggest that you have a browse around to pick up lots of info.

Good luck with the treatment
