Very happy with the results!
I got double jaw surgery for a very severe posterior open bite 7 months ago. I’m super happy with the functional results as well as my face. Prior to surgery, I had a very long face, but now it’s much more oval and proportionate. I have fuller lips, much fuller, prominent cheeks, and a stronger jawl...

Re: Help! Totally botched?
You look great. You are still swollen, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about these minor issues that are usually fine-tuned by braces.

7 months post op. Upper lip not moving when I talk
I have gotten much better movement and overall feeling in my upper lip (I couldn’t even suck out of a straw for several months after surgery) but my upper lip still feels very tight and my husband says it doesn’t move much when I talk. I had a Lefort 1 and impaction. Will I ever get full movement ba...

Single tooth sensitivity after jaw surgery
My front tooth is sensitive when I touch it with the tip of my tongue (I’m 4 weeks post op) and this is a recent issue. Should I bring this up with my surgeon? I haven’t had any tooth sensitivity prior to jaw surgery. I’m skeptical that it would be a cavity since I go for cleanings every 3 months an...

Re: Lefort 1 post op top lip
I had somewhat of the same thing, and I would advise you to relax, because you’re only 11 days post-op. Try not to judge your appearance too harshly.

I second Dr. Jackson in Sacramento. He’s awesome.

Jaw infection after surgery
I’m 3 weeks post-op, and I have an infection. Taking antibiotics until I see my surgeon on Monday or Tuesday. Need some moral support. I’ve gone through so much with the surgery and I’m starting to honestly feel miserable with life. My heart rate dropped after surgery, so sometimes I wish I was gone...

Re: Swelling day 7
I should probably add that I’ve been reading a lot of jaw surgery blogs, and almost no one looks as swollen as I do at day 7.

Swelling day 7
My surgeon said that because of the nature of the surgery (surgery was for 6 hours, did a bone graft to the upper jaw, 3-piece Lefort 1 and BSSO to correct a severe open bite.) that it was going to be expected that I’ll be recovering a bit slower than most people. He said that swelling will peak aro...

Re: Open bite & TMJ...considering braces/surgery
Thanks for the reply. I too have developed significantly flat/weakened cheekbones as well as breathing problems. I've had a couple specialists tell me to do the same thing you're doing new "anterior stabilization" splint and then reevaluate re: ortho/surgery while others say I should star...

Re: Open bite & TMJ...considering braces/surgery
Prior to my second round of braces for a posterior open bite, my first ortho messed up everything. I developed facial pain, TMJ issues, flat cheekbones - you name it. I went to a TMJ specialist who gave me a splint to allow my jaws to heal, then had my second round of braces. I can breathe better no...

Re: Am I a candidate for lefort 1 with bsso advancement
I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Unfortunately, pulling out teeth will result in the kind of profile you've described. I would not recommend surgery, but rather, find a dentist who does reversal orthodontic work. A neuromuscular dentist or a TMJ specialist might be your best bet. They will att...

Re: Getting 2nd jaw surgery in December - so excited!
So has anyone gotten jaw surgery for a posterior open bite? It seems to be less common than anterior open bite. How did your face change?

Getting 2nd jaw surgery in December - so excited!
After a year in braces with my current ortho, (first ortho messed up everything from my bite, to my jaw joints, and reducing tongue space.) and I'm very happy with the results so far. My cheekbones are more prominent, my upper arch has expanded considerably, I no longer struggle for air when I'm awa...
