Re: Oral Surgery - Tell us your results.
I (29 year old) had double jaw surgery in March 2017 during braces from 2015-2018. A Le Fort I for upper moving forward, Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy (BSSO) for the lower moving backwards for a total movement of 7mm. https://i.imgur.com/RXWUJphm.png Appearance: +2 charisma, my canted upper jaw...

Re: 1 Month double jaw surgery post-op EATING
Please Do follow the elastics instructions religiously. It was really hard for me to stick to it as well, I tended to do the lesser of two evils and just keep the bands in and eat. This is still somewhat bad as the elastics get looser over time, but it's better than not putting the elastics back in ...

Re: Happy after double jaw surgery?
It's about 10 months since jaw surgery, I'm about a month away from getting my braces off. I'm extremely happy I chose to get double jaw surgery, I can actually eat food properly now, biting and all. My SO and friends tell me my face is much more natural/better looking now as well. Big pluses all ar...

Re: I am scared Post-Surgery
I had double jaw surgery about 6.5 months ago, and after my teeth were unwired my bite didn't come together AT ALL. Basically when I tried to bite two teeth would touch first and only, and it was extremely awkward. The orthodontist and oral surgeon were not worried, as they felt the jaw alignment wa...

Re: Oh the pain
I'm 2 months post-op from double jaw as well, same upper forward and lower backwards. My swelling came down extremely unevenly as well, left side stayed puffed up for almost the last 2 months, though it finally seems to be coming down to match the right side (yay). I'm sorry you're feeling pain! A s...

Re: Braces taken off after Double Jaw surgery NHS Not happy
I feel like I'm in a similar situation. I'm 2 months post-op, and there appears to be a cant to my upper/lower teeth, and my midline is about 1/4 to 1/5th of a tooth off now. I think the upper jaw is slightly off causing this. Here's a picture from before surgery (top) vs now (2 months post-op) http...

Re: Question for people who's mouths were closed shut
I was only wired shut for 9 days. I drank ensure protein shakes for calories. I drank mango juice for sweetness cravings and calories. Finally I drank hot chicken broth which someone could buy from the local vietnamese pho place in large batches, and that satisfied my salt cravings. I basically just...

Re: Help! Off-Centred Lower and Upper Jaw
I'm 1 month post-op from double-jaw, I've had similar concerns about my mid-line being off, one jaw being canted, and my nose, lips and teeth not aligning. It's pretty minor though. On the order of 1.5mm or so shifts, and though I am still somewhat worried, this unfortunately seems to be within the ...

Re: Do teeth move faster after jaw surgery?
Yep, they were springs. So the idea there was to push the teeth apart in that area to give space for the tooth that was so twisted they couldn't get a wire on it for a couple months.fixmyjaws wrote: Also may I ask what is a can't and what are those springiethingies on your lower teeth?

Re: Double jaw surgery and speech?
I don't have any speech problems but I did have double jaw surgery for an 8mm underbite 1 months ago. I had perhaps the slightest of lisps before, after nothing feels like it's changed, just need to relearn muscle-memory for lip movements for things like whistling, spitting, etc. To others I sound e...

Re: Do teeth move faster after jaw surgery?
I've had braces on for 2 years before jaw surgery, probably another 6-9 months to go after jaw surgery. From my understanding talking to orthodontists/dentists; It depends on how the teeth are before braces and the amount of movement needed before and after jaw surgery. Some patients (like me) have ...

I was also cleared to eat soft foods at 9 days when my splint and wires were taken out. I was given a piece of paper saying to only have soft foods like mashed potatoes and blended things for the next week or two, and as I started to feel stronger I could start introducing normal foods into my diet....

Re: New Double Jaw Surgery Blog
Hi I like your blog a lot! I'm also recovering from double jaw surgery. I'm about 1 month post-op at this point. Blogs like yours have been nice to read during my recovery to get a sense of where I am and what to expect.
