Re: September-December 2019 surgery buddies

Me! It’s my second revision third surgery for a le forte 2 piece and bsso.

Surgery was completed on 09/26 - so far the recovery has been VERY smooth and the follow ups positive. Currently banded shut for 6 weeks.

Any questions? I feel like I know some things!

I need outside opinions...

I had a two piece leforte 1 last year and and my lower jaw was brought forward 8mm. The screws on my right side popped loose not long after the surgery but it was not identified until my 6 week follow up. A revision on the right side was done with one day notice so no digital molds were taken to cre...

Re: Revised folks - talk me down

10 week follow up on revision to my lower right today (17 weeks out from the original double jaw surgery). I was no longer banded shut at 6 weeks so real food has been a great treat! Everything looks great. Bone is growing in, just slowly. I’ve got 90-95% sensation in my lip and my gums are starting...

Btw I'm 22 days post op from my revision surgery.
Thanks! Why did you have to have yours revised? How has your recovery been? I will say the second time has physically been much easier for me, except the banding, but far more anxiety producing!

Re: Revised folks - talk me down

Free! Free at last after 6 weeks the tight bands are off, there are just two light bands to help guide my bite. Speaking of bite, it’s terrible, but the surgeon says the ortho will get it back in line. My second surgery is healing nicely and as long as I take it easy as I ease back into chewing the ...

Re: Upper jaw & Chin surgery going back to soccer

I play women’s ice hockey on a non-checking league and my surgeon absolutely will not release me to play until 12 weeks. Keep in mind we have full pads and a helmet with a cage. My ortho thought that was a bit excessive but told me to trust the surgeon.

Re: Revised folks - talk me down

4 week check in - revision is doing great, surgeon is tickled with the incision and thinks the revision took. He’s keeping me banded for two more weeks to play it safe. I cried after I left the clinic. Life pro tip- don’t travel when you are banded shut and if you do prepare, prepare, prepare! I did...

Re: Revised folks - talk me down

I’m updating this because it’s been so hard for me to get information on this type of procedure. Went in for a check up today - everything looks fantastic but I’m banded shut for another 3 weeks. Ugh. Oral surgeon was thrilled with the incision being in great shape, level of hygiene and my mad bandi...

Re: Revised folks - talk me down

Went through with the surgery on Friday. There was extensive cleaning of the bone required to remove the fibrous unions but overall it’s been MUCH smoother. My lower right was the only side worked on - it swole up like crazy but came down fast. My biggest complaint is they banded me completely shut....

Re: Revised folks - talk me down

Just an update - got a call today. They have me scheduled for the failed screws to be removed tomorrow and plates to be added in order to reattach my lower right jaw. The Ortho is going to add an expander in the next few weeks for the collapse on the upper. It’s been moving well so far with just the...

Re: Tooth discoloration

The prescription mouthwash can temporarily stain your teeth and the lack of hygiene is a factor as well. Just do what you can for now and rinse your mouth after the mouthwash to minimize impact. It will get better once you can brush/floss better. I can hardly wait till I get in for my cleaning once ...

Revised folks - talk me down

6 week follow up from Lefort 1 2-piece and bsso. Looks like one side “popped loose” from the screws and has been floating for some time - this has caused a “collapse” of both the top and bottom right side (left looks great!). They are going to try banding me shut to see if it will help but the surge...

Re: How long before you saw your ortho after surgery?

Thanks! This is great info. I had a Le forte 1 - 2piece and bsso. I totally agree about it feeling unstable without bands initially!

How long before you saw your ortho after surgery?

I was exactly 4 weeks out on Weds. when I saw my ortho. They had pulled the splint on Friday and I had been wearing bands as required since surgery. The ortho about came uncorked when he saw my teeth, they had snipped my upper arch wire for surgery and my teeth had begun to “collapse” in due to the ...

Re: surgery tomorrow

I’m so glad!! I’ve been wanting to ask. Don’t forget your warm compress - it helped me with the spasms. I just sleep with a heating pad and switch sides throughout the night.

Day 25 here and it just keeps getting better!
