Gets better over time. Wax is your best friend in this case.

Re: Braces for TMJ, just got orthotic
All the questions you need, no worries. That's why this forum is for. ;-) My orthotic was fixed (only the first adjustment to provide the exact height and optimum occlusal function of my bite). It was initially intended for night wear only (to prevent unconscious over stressing the joint and the ear...

Re: Braces for TMJ, just got orthotic
Yeap, the orthotic helped as long as I wore it, it was very tall and didn't allow me to close completely my mouth, allowing my joint to rest in a comfortable position. However, if I removed the orthotic for as little as 20 minutes, migraine stepped in almost immediately, and the only way to kill it ...

Re: Braces for TMJ, just got orthotic
Hi Meg. I am in the same side. Braces on for 3 months, and it's incredible the amount of progress. I have Insignia customized braces because of the level of detail that my bite needed in order to work. I used the orthotic for about a year, it's a palliative, but not a solution, so i took the plunge ...

Re: braces and face changes
Yeap. Same feeling here. I recently needed photos for a webinar I was giving, and I was unsure which photo to use, the one with braces or the one from a month ago. I ended not putting a photo at all, as I can't recognize myself in either one. I am in my 6th week in braces, and slowly I am becoming a...

Re: They're on! How do I eat...?
Stick to soups and chopped protein. The first week or so is the worst, then you'll be able to chew a little bit more.
Good luck!

Re: Hello everyone!
Hi Mariana, welcome to the club. Yes, braces can be scary, specially at the beginning. Keep an open mind and enjoy the ride. I am in my three week mark, after 2 postponed appointments and a 3 month wait since I decided to take the plunge, because my braces were custom made and took a while to get th...

Re: New Here, getting braced in 1 month (Insignia)
Hi, thanks for the kind wishes. It's been 3 weeks since I got braced, and I can tell you I practically haven't suffered a migraine (except for one particular case) in those 3 weeks. I have been more conscious about my stress levels and the clenching of my whole bite is quite a trigger. I have a very...

Re: Bite Stoppers
Indeed, they are to stop you from biting your own braces one with another. I found a lot of support here, it's been almost 2 weeks and I am past the panic stage, up to acceptance stage. Chewing with them is tricky. My guess is your ortho removes them once you are safe from biting your braces togethe...

Re: Decision time - Damon clear vs. Damon metal?
I got Damon metal (Insignia). The recommendation came from my ortho, based on my treatment plan, as metal brackets are smaller, and more maneuverable for him.

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35
I just read the whole progress. (no pictures permission yet), but based on what you are telling, I can see a great progress. Thanks a lot for the encouragement with the bite blocks. I have bite turbos and the week has been very slow for me. The sense of chewing anything has been so discomforting tha...

Re: Has anyone cured their TMJ with orthodontics?
I am in my first week of Insignia custom made braces in order to correct all the bite interferences that contribute to TMJ pain. I have a very small open bite. Talk to your ortho, take two or three different opinions. I spent a year and a half with a splint coming and going. Eventually when I got a ...

18 months for me, based on the monthly payment plan, as the orto said "over a year".

Re: Bite turbos and teeth grinding?
I have molar build-ups, my ortho refers them as turbos. Are you getting front turbos or molar buildups? I got braced 4 days ago and the molar build ups have helped me trough the night. I am a long time clencher, and used a mouth guard for a year before getting braces, my main concern was I was so us...

Re: Cavities with braces??
[quote="jole958237"]I just had a filling done on a cavity that was found after about a month in braces. It depends on where the cavity is. If it's easily accessible you might not need to do anything extra. Mine was at the side of a tooth so I needed to have the wire removed temporarily. Yo...
