I think it's very common for the sensation to take a long time to come back. It's a common issue with this operation as I read online. However, my friend had a lower/upper jaw surgery and she was numb in this area for over 8 months and then it started to get better with time.

My orthodontist just recommended to brush them with water everyday and it will be fine. I sometimes used soap because water alone was not enough (regular hand soap).

I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I had braces for 3 years, It cost $7000. I paid $2000 upfront and the rest in installments. About $150 per month.
