Sorry this reply came so late. Yes my sense of smell and taste appears to have returned to 100%.

I really think it was the mouthwash - so be careful with the stuff!

I'm one year since SARPE surgery and 9 months on braces top and bottom. My back teeth still do not close completely - the front touch well before they come together. There's a 2mm gap, give or take.

I would not worry about doing any damage using your own strength - your own senses would prevent yourself from doing any damage long before it occurred. I wouldn't worry - after 6 weeks bone formation will be quite strong around any plates or screws. I'm sure any aching will subside within a short while. If for some reason it doesn't get any better then I'd go for a checkup.

Sorry I have no experience of this but if it was me I would be getting a second opinion and maybe even trying some alternative medicine approach before going in for more surgery (assuming it's not painful for you right now).
