Re: How often post-op see surgeon?

I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask and express your concerns - I would expect that your surgeon would either accommodate your request for an addt'l x-ray or better explain the typical recovery timeline and go over your prior x-ray. It may be that 1-2 addt'l weeks may not be a long enough perio...

Re: How often post-op see surgeon?

My surgeon typically schedules visits 1-week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year post-op. A CT scan was taken 24 hours after the surgery, no x-rays. I'm told another CT may be taken at 6 months or 1 year post-op.

Re: Hello!

Hi - hang in there! It's a long process but it'll be worth it in the end. 1) Would recommend confirming with your orthodontist / surgeons that you've consulted. Not sure if there's really a very specific "name" for your particular underbite, other than a Class III malocclusion with a few s...

Re: July-September surgery buddys

Hi - could someone please comment on if their post-op swelling was noticeable to others even after 1 month / 2 months after surgery? Many on this thread seem to be very acutely aware of their swelling over time (for obvious reasons), but I'm wondering if after a few to several weeks, it wasn't as no...

Re: I am scared Post-Surgery

Wow, thanks senecastudent and elucidation - both your posts are really helpful! I'm reading as much as I can to prepare myself for pre-op preparation and immediate post-op recovery and diet, but this is a whole other area to consider. Thank you for sharing your experiences and providing detailed ove...

Re: The emotional side of the journey

Hi Jon - thanks for starting this thread, I think this is a huge aspect of the surgery that deserves more attention. I haven't yet had my surgery as well, but in an effort to prepare for it mentally/emotionally (which is the aspect that frankly worries me more than the physical aspects of recovery, ...

Re: Any facial changes a year post-op?

So maybe this is less helpful given that I haven't had my surgery yet, but if it's any consolation, I've been reading a large number of blogs that offer detailed photo diaries (or at least regular commentary on facial changes) and it does seem that around the 1 year mark is when many people felt tha...

Post-op insurance issues even after pre-authorization?

Hello - I was hoping to ask for further information from anyone who's had issues with having their insurance company cover the costs of their procedures, even after said procedures were officially pre-authorized prior to the surgery. I'll be having a Lefort I, BSSO, and SG done, with all three pre-a...

Re: How many surgeons did you consult?

I went to four, which in hindsight was excessive (especially given the high out of pocket consultation fees), but it resulted from my lack of knowledge at the time how critical in- vs. out-of-network was. Two were recommended by my orthodontist, so I saw both, but while I really liked one of them, b...

Re: How many used an out-of-network surgeon?

Hi - just my two cents in case it is helpful: I went for multiple consultations, with about half of the surgeons out-of-network (I was willing to pay out of pocket for all of these visits, which were not covered by my insurance). I decided to go with an in-network surgeon - actually located further ...

Re: Having double jaw surgery next year (2018) - Question

Hi - I am also scheduled to have double jaw surgery in a few months. I had a few consultations with various surgeons, and they all recommended that my two upper wisdom teeth (the only ones I had) be removed, so I went ahead and had the procedure done. I would proceed based on what your surgeon, once...

Re: Tips, Tricks, and Comments – From a guy who’s done double jaw surgery TWICE!

Hi iamamused - thank you so much for this very helpful information, and for updating with details from your 10-mo. checkup. Glad to hear that you are pleased with the outcome. I am scheduled to have this surgery in a few months, and it is good to know how to mentally prepare. One follow up question ...
