Loose retainers?
I got my braces off about a month and a half ago. I have permanent retainers on the backs of my teeth at the top and bottom, and Hawley retainers that I'm still on 24/7 for the moment. I also go to school in a different city than my orthodontist so now that the school year has begun it's not too eas...

One of my ties came off, should I be worried?
I've had braces for close to a year and a half now, with no issues, but today when I was flossing my teeth one of the coloured ties just sorta snapped off a bracket - I guess it had been wearing out or something? It's one of the teeth that has an elastic on it. The bracket is still there but I don't...

Advice on how to tell if you brushed well with braces?
I've had my braces six months now, and I've generally been told that I've been doing a great job when it comes to oral hygiene. But today... I went in for my adjustment and I was told my a hygienist I was doing a pretty bad job at cleaning my molars and that I had a lot of plaque buildup, (she gave ...

Normal to have sore teeth at random?
I just notice I will, at random, feel soreness in certain teeth. Usually this is when I am eating or drinking, or when I touch the tooth in question. Is this normal, and just the teeth moving? Or does it sound like something to be concerned about? The sore tooth can vary from day to day, so I'm bein...

Re: Lingual buttons?
They are no big deal, just a small bit used to attach a rubber band. I had one to attach a cross bite elastic to a molar. It was nothing really. Here is a link to another Archwired contributor's post showing her bottons with elastics: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=36146&start=...

Lingual buttons?
Just heard of something called "lingual buttons" which apparently go on the back of your teeth? They sound pretty horrible, but all the information I've been able to find is about "lingual BRACES" which are an alternative to the ordinary kind?? I have regular braces with a power ...

Signal boost - AVOID CREST PRO HEALTH MOUTHWASH
Hi all, I just wanted to give a little signal boost to help out everyone here. Often our orthos will prescribe or reccomend mouthwash for keeping our teeth extra clean, and I just wanted to give a callout because you should AVOID Crest Pro-Health mouthwash - it contains a compound that can damage yo...

Re: Is it normal I'm not wearing rubber bands?
Asked my own ortho this about a week ago. They all depend on your specific case! Some people need them and some don't, but they usually come in later in treatment.

Wiggly wire
Hi, sorry to bother everyone here again with my worries. I just keep having this issue with my wire in one area and I really want to ask about it - so on my top row of teeth all the teeth are braced. For a while now I've had issue with the back molars on the left side - the end sticking out of the b...

Coil springs - tips?
I got my braces adjusted Friday and my ortho put in some coil springs between my top front teeth and incisors, to make room for my laterals, which are still shoved back far enough they can't connect to the wire. i understand they'll help, but they are unbearably painful - putting wax over the connec...

CLIF bars
Does anyone know if they can eat Clif bars with braces? I just can't remember how sticky/hard they are... can you crush them with your tongue against the roof of your mouth? (I've been doing that with some foods) I know the ones with nuts are out, but I'm pretty sure I could have the coconut chocola...

Re: Soda vs. sugary drinks
The good news is that lattes are okish from an acidic pov, especially since they have a lot of milk, just don't put tons of sugar in them. Well, I don't put sugar in the lattes, because they already come packed with sugar (flavoured ones like from Starbucks I mean). Sometimes I have cappuccin...

Soda vs. sugary drinks
All the information I can find tells me not to drink soda with braces, or to drink it with a straw. Carbonated drinks as well. I hate fizzy stuff and never drink soda (iced tea like Nestea I drink really rarely) but I do LOVE sugary flavoured lattes. I'm... look I'm not going to give them up because...

How could I tell if a wire/bracket was broken?
Got my braces three months ago, and when I've gone for adjustments my ortho or her assistant always ask me if anything's broken. Definitely not that I've NOTICED so far, but then I started to worry if I COULD tell or not, and if my ortho would tell me or if that's "my responsibility." I al...
