Re: Recovery story and questions
I'm over 3 months post-surgery and I no longer have pain or tightness. In retrospect, aside from the nerve pain that dogged me for the first several weeks, I think the splint and tight elastics were the source of many lingering issues. I am still wearing fairly tight elastics. I only need to wear th...

Re: opening wide after surgery
I thought I'd check back in. Everything is going well! I'm now over 3 months post surgery. I've been going to physiotherapy for my jaw (not because a problem was identified, but because my orthodontist mentioned it in an offhand way before surgery and I followed up on it with my surgeon). I was neve...

opening wide after surgery
Hello all, I'm 6 weeks post surgery today! Currently I can open only 1 inch and that's after stretching since week 4.5. I started out with 9 popsicle sticks, then the next day was 10, but I got stalled at 11 the subsequent day, after I started breaking out in a sweat each time I pushed in the 11th p...

Re: numb top front teeth and a lisp after double jaw surgery
I think all my teeth ache/hurt, especially all the molars. However, my top gums are completely numb. My splint comes out next week. I am quite expecting to have some sort of speech impediment because all my mouth has been re-arranged inside!

Re: How did you manage to work with a splint in for 5 weeks?
I'm at 6 weeks with a splint and started work this week. I'm not still using syringes--are you wired shut or tightly banded? I have just two elastics, so that would be a big difference in terms of talking and eating. I sound like a goof ("st" is the hardest) and sometimes I spit. I just te...

Re: Recovery story and questions
I wanted to add that my surgeon gave me the go-ahead to use the Water pik right after surgery (I know some people have been advised against using it, so check with your surgeon) and that I'm super careful with the pocket pik attachment. Basically I place it in position at the top margin of the splin...

Recovery story and questions
Hello all, I thought I'd post my story in case it's useful for others. I also have a few questions for those that have been through this already. I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow. I had BSSO and Lefort 1 (2 piece, I think you'd call it), and my two top back molars were removed. On December 6, I had my ...

Re: post-Bimax: how long does the pain last?
Hi Tomm31, I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow. I had, and have, significant pain. One week + post op it was at a 7 or 8 out of 10, and that's with round-the-clock treatment with codeine and tylenol and advil. It was searing, jabbing, burning pain all the time and worse at night. It actually hurt inside m...

Re: what is the best tip/advice/info that you have picked up from archwired?
Oh I know this is a terribly old thread, but I thought it was a great question. I'm reading past posts and finding that a lot of the same information/experiences are repeated over and over, so what better thing than to try synthesize the best bits? For me, the best information is: 1) the concept of ...

Re: upper incisors not in bone
Thank you for taking the time to respond! Well that would explain why I can't find anything online. It could be that I misunderstood "intrude into bone" as meaning that the roots were not in bone in the first place, when in fact she meant put further into bone. However, I do recall my conv...

upper incisors not in bone
Hello all, My orthodontist told me my two front upper incisors are not in my bone--they are only in the gums because they are angled so much inward. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how long it took for their teeth to move into a more normal position? My upper incisors have not bu...

Re: bite turbo lisp: where does my tongue go for s sound?
I've learned that I can make the S sound if I press the tip of my tongue against the bottom teeth (who knew!). I've printed out 5 pages of speech therapy practice pages for this weekend. I sound like a goof still but I made it through a work teleconference by getting my work colleague to speak on ou...
