Rebecca, I know what you mean. My teeth felt less than smooth when I got my braces off a couple months ago. But they feel better now. I don't know why, maybe they smooth out on their own a little just from eating and brushing ?? I figured I would just wait till my next cleaning and ask my dentist.

My Hawleys do impede my biting down. There are wires (actually about 6 wires on each one) that go across the top of my molars, top and bottom. When I bite down those wires keep me from biting down all the way. They are not loose. I have to sort of 'pop' them in and I cannot remove them with my tongu...

I didn't see any braces on the lower teeth either.....kind of makes the cute brackets 'cuter' when the whole mouth isn't full of metal.

My orthodontist told me to soak my Hawleys in vinegar and if the taste bothers me to give them a quick rinse in mouthwash. However, the vinegar doesn't bother me at all. I find this method to work great. I've had them for 2 months. Whenever they are out of my mouth at home, they are in a little cup ...

My previous dentist told me I was not a candidate for braces because I was too old, and there was no way I could save my impacted canine...and that my teeth would never look any whiter with bleaching. On his business card it says he specializes in 'cosmetic denistry'. Glad I changed dentists before ...

Katie, I think you have beautiful teeth. I predict you will be very happy with them after braces.

I started my orthodontic treatment at age 52. Just got my braces off a couple weeks ago at age 55. I noticed movement right away. My ortho did tell me they like to go a little slower with adults because the chance of root damage is higher...but that was all. He didn't say this was worse with older a...

Another note.....even if the orthodontist does offer ceramics, not everyone is a candidate. It all depends on your treatment. I was not a good candidate for ceramics so I had metal. I probably noticed them way more than anyone else did.

Maybe the tooth has moved a little and is protruding just enough to catch your lip.

Your teeth look absolutely amazing!!! Did they shape your teeth when you were done? I'm thinking they will need to do that with mine due to uneven wear. The only shaping he did was to one of my two front teeth. One was more rounded and the other was more square...so he squared off one of them. Ther...

Thanks for all the nice comments. In these past three years, I've read about so many people finishing their treatment, its hard for me to believe it actually has happened to me! Do you really feel you were too old for this? Mike...I did feel like maybe I was too old when I started the process. Espec...

Finished !

Well, I am finally finished. One month shy of 3 years and at 55 years old they are OFF! I accomplished my main goal of getting my impacted canine brought down to keep from having to get an implant. I still need one implant where I never got a permanent molar. My oral surgeon thinks I made the histor...

Wonder why she told you that. Why doesn't she just give you a whole bunch of wax? I was offered wax at every appointment.

I just made my appointment for my whitening. My dentist recommended the home method.....using the trays. That way I can control the sensitivity. If it gets to be too much I can stop for a while. My friend just did the laser whitening in the office and she cried all night from the pain. I know whiten...

Clo..good luck, I hope this works....and by the way...your teeth are amazingly sparkling white. How on earth do you accomplish that with all that stuff in your mouth?
