Re: Metal vs Clear: Who wins?
Whoever wins, we lose. Wait, that was Alien vs Predator, not braces. Sorry. I have clear up top and metal on the bottom, all self-ligating. I feel like the ceramic is more gentle on the inside of my mouth, but the metal is less bulky, as far as comfort goes. Aesthetically, the ceramic is less obviou...

Re: Lips protruding
Yeah, I look like I'm pouting all the time. It's exacerbating my natural "resting sad face."
Also, I can't smile with my lips shut anymore, either, but my open-mouthed smile doesn't look like me. Takes some getting used to.

Re: What kind of lip balm do you use?
Bag Balm! It's the greatest. I have it in a squeeze tube at home, and a big tin of it in my desk at work. If it will heal a cow's udder, I figure it will probably heal my lips.

Re: clear or metal?
I have ceramic on top and metal on the bottom. My ortho charges the same for ceramic as for metal, and I have self-ligating, so no ligatures to worry about staining. If the metal had been cheaper, I probably would have gone full metal, and the ceramic are a little bulkier, but I'm pretty happy with ...

Re: Braces giving me new wrinkles
I just got braces, and I have that fold under the nose when I smile, too. I am also trying to figure out smiling right now; I have been smiling with my mouth closed for so long that showing my teeth feels funny, but I cannot fit these brackets under a closed-mouth smile. It's weird.

Re: Cost of your braces
$6,500 in northern Virginia in the US. Insurance covered about 2k. That's for ceramic up top and metal on the bottom.

Re: Braces at 32. Yippee.
The only really painful part was the several hours after having them put on. Now my teeth just feel slightly uncomfortable, and--weirdly--my face is tired. Like, my lips are in a different position than usual because the brackets are making them protrude more, and the lower half of my face is just t...

Braces at 32. Yippee.
Hey, y'all. I'm getting braces in about nine hours, so I figured I'd go ahead and join the forum. I've always had a mild overjet that needed fixing, but my parents were rich in children, not money (or dental benefits), so I didn't get braces when I was younger. I intended to get braces once I could ...
