Ah ok .. thanks for that. Now it makes a lot more sense. Just goes to show that 9 year old boys are terrible when it comes to oral hygiene. lol
Thanks again - greatly appreciated.

KK - you made me think of another question for you! I bought disclosing tablets a while ago and told my nephew he could use one 1st. After seeing the colour of his mouth I got concerned about the ceramic braces and chickened out. So basically, when you brush does all the red go away? Thanks! Probabl...

I just want to add something though, just because a person has theirs on for a longer period of time it doesn't mean that they've been bad with their braces. Sure, missing appointments and breaking brackets can definately slow things down, but anybody can get a four year treatment, and it's complet...

hmm. That is interesting. I've always done it after brushing, but maybe I need to change that! About the floss hitting the wire: If you don't have a threader (one of the needle things) you can still just use regular floss. I use my fingers to thread it under the wire for each tooth and then floss as...

Yeah I used the proper one (found it in the supermarket) but wasn't too impressed by it. So now I just use normal ones...

I change mine way too often!!! Since having braces I found the same thing. The bristles get that worn out that the toothbrush doesn't last long. I'd say i'm replacing it every few weeks. It sure does become expensive. I have also used many different types. The ortho recommended a childs toothbrush (...

Hi weird_wired, Thanks for the reply. I still don't know the reason for my elastics. I can only assume they are to correct the midline. My bite is not open but I think I still have a bit of an overjet though. My strong one is on the left and the weaker on the right (so opposite to you).. I'm just so...

Yeah I know what you mean. I do that all the time with my extraction gaps. It is just a habit to give them a helping hand!
I don't know if it is bad, but the amount of pressure we are putting on it probably does nothing at all. I tend to think it's more psychological than anything.

Dena - No. I don't think the ortho has mentioned it at all. I went to the dentist though when I first noticed it a long time ago and he said it was nothing to worry about. It looks to me as though it is just the glue which has stained, not my actual tooth... but because it's behind the hooks it is h...

I agree with all the other posters that you need to let your ortho know. I had a situation which isn't quite the same ... but I think is relevant. My ortho broke his arm a while ago and had a few other orthodontists doing the hands on stuff for him. One of the women was terrible. It took her forever...

Thanks everyone for the replies. For me I don't think that it's excess cement/glue. The staining is just along the edge of the glue. I was told not to try and scrub it though as I could damage the tooth. The dentist didn't offer any suggestions other than to leave it and when my braces are removed t...

Stains around glue

I have some brown/black staining (I know this probably doesn't sound too good already but i'll continue) around the glue on my brackets. It isn't noticeable as it is mainly where the hooks for my elastics are. I was worried at 1st, thinking it was the start of a cavity but the dentist told me what i...

Clear powerchains for me. That's the way it's always been. I don't mind them and I like the fact they are barely noticeable!
