It's really strange but i've never had cleats and don't recall them being ground off when my braces were 1st put on!
Can you get some bands that don't have cleats on them at all?
My bands aren't totally smooth all round... they are slightly raised where I imagine the cleats would have been.

Oh my god, brush BEFORE meals AS WELL as after meals, snacks, coffee, etc?? I already spend most of my life in front of the mirror with a toothbrush in my mouth, any more and I might as well have my mail redirected to the bathroom too! Soon there'll be no teeth left to be straight, crooked or other...

I agree with missingu that it's best to call and check. Many people on this forum have said they were told to take the elastics out to eat but I've always been instructed to leave mine on. I'm supposed to change the elastics at least once a day. I change them every time I eat and brush though. The t...

Re: Debanding date - FINALLY!

Congratulations! And I thought I was excited after just under a year. You must be ecstatic! Thanks heaps! Yeah totally excited, I can't wait. I can't even remember what it was like to brush my teeth without anything in the way, or to eat without worrying about whether I have food stuck all through ...

Dental Work

Hi everyone, I'm getting my braces off in 6 weeks (not that i'm counting or anything), but I broke my front tooth years ago when I fainted and landed on cement. I need to get it fixed cosmetically, because it's a dark colour and you can see where my real tooth and the bit they added join. Has anyone...

Wow ... you're a great planner ... having set an appointment for a pre removal check ... what an excellent idea that is! Thanks for the replies. I love having the support of this forum and knowing that someone else out there also realises how exciting this is! I got told I needed the 3 appointments...

Debanding date - FINALLY!

Hi everyone, Well I just had to share.... I had an adjustment today and the ortho looked at my teeth and said: "Yeah I think we can set that appointment". I couldn't contain my excitement. After almost 3 years I'll be getting my braces off on the 15th May! I've made 3 appointments. A revie...

Hi today53 - nice to see another Sydneysider! Good luck for Wednesday, i'm sure it will all be fine. Braces are like anything. It will take you a little while to adjust but after that you wont even notice them. Just keep remembering the reasons for your decision and focus on the end result  On...

Not just food but sometimes my floss will shred when it slides across my braces and little bits of it will get stuck in there and is almost impossible to get out. Yeah I really hate that, it's disgusting and even more annoying than getting food stuck. On the food front though i'd have to say nuts, ...

Hi there. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I had 4 teeth extracted also (with HUGE gaps) and now they are all closed. It took 2 and 1/2 years for them to close mind you.. but at least they got there in the end! Good luck. If you still have doubts then speak to your ortho, but i'm sure...

Thanks for the info phanta - greatly appreciated. For years i've only used Colgate toothpaste. I tried macleans triple stripe and developed lots of ulcers and so since then I hadn't been game enough to try anything else. I never knew what the ingredient in the macleans was that caused it though! I'm...
