Re: Post Your COVID-19 Orthodontic Stories or Concerns

My late March appointment got cancelled and I didn't see my ortho before early June. At least I was lucky I had my teeth cleaned in late Feb. If that delay didn't happen my braces would have been removed in early June. Now I have to wait until late Aug. I don't mind as I'm used to delays thanks to m...

Re: Ortho Positives from Covid-19

I work in healthcare and as masks are mandatory now it'd be funny when my coworkers see me without a mask (braces are coming off in 2 months)

Re: Fused premolar

Update: my premolar ended up being ankylosed and I opted for no extractions. My ortho wasn't sure he can make it work (he is a perfectionist too), but he did an amazing job and I'm very happy with it. The bite is perfect, except that single spot where the upper premolar doesn't meet the lower. I don...

Re: Treatment persuaded others?

My coworker got persuaded and she is getting braces for herself and her kids. Unfortunately, I couldn't try to convince her to have them done at a reputable orthodontist and she is getting them at her dentist office. I don't feel this is ideal, but hopefully it will work out well for her. It's sad ...

Re: Vancouver area orthodonist recommendations?

Hi, a late response but hope it's not too late. I'm seeing Dr. Brent Douglas at Ocean Orthodontics. He is amazing and highly recommend him. Definitely knows what he is doing and he doesn't do extractions unless they are absolutely necessary. I've had a very pleasant experience and he is very down to...

Re: Fused premolar

Thanks for the heads up! The implant will cost me $4-5k, but this will be my last resort. It seems that the archwire has started to even out between the problematic premolar and the canine, so I'm quite optimistic now that the tooth isn't ankylosed. The little proxabrush slides a lot easier undernea...

Re: Fused premolar

So, back from my ortho appointment and he isn't sure what is going on anymore :-* The premolar may and may not have moved. Neither me nor him are sure. I was definitely feeling clicking when he placed the wire last time. He said I might have one more ankylosed premolar on the other side. For that on...

Re: Electric vs Manual brishes

Definitely get an electric brush. After switching to one in 2017, I haven't looked back. It's superior to manual and your teeth feel so much cleaner! I'm using a sonicare and I love it. It doesn't get caught in brackets. I find that the bristles tend to wear out quicker though.

Re: Tartar plaque around brackets

You are not alone  No matter how much I brush and floss, the tartar appears within 2 weeks of professional cleaning. I go to the dentist every 3 months and she removes chunks of tartar. I was told that some people are more prone to it. I was like that before braces and now with the braces it's...

Re: What’s The Right Order??

Morning Brush with electric brush after having breakfast (and waiting for a minimum of 30mins before brushing) Night Floss Wide proxabrush to clean: 1) underneath the archwire, 2) around brackets, 3) along the gum line, 4) along the distal part of the brackets, 5) between any gaps Brush with electr...

Re: Do you have fillings?

I used to have 3 metal fillings on 2 lower 1st molars and 1 upper 1st molar that were done when I was 10-12 (blame it on candy). Thanks to my previous incompetent (trying to be as polite as possible) dentist, I ended up replacing the 2 lower molar fillings with crowns and replaced the upper metal fi...

Re: Fused premolar

Update: It seems like my premolar isn't ankylosed after all. The archwire seems to have straighten since a couple of weeks ago and both sides are starting to look symmetrical now. It's not a pleasant experience being told that you might have a fused tooth and because of it you can end up with 4 extr...

Re: Rude things people have said to you

The only comment about braces that felt a bit insulting came from an old lady asking me why I decided to have braces at this age and not when I was a teen. I felt insulted because some people might just not have the money to start treatment early. I was fortunate enough and had removable expanders t...
