As a member of the "I can't chew very well or at all" club I have great empathy. Gypsydoodlebug's list sums up much of my menu choices. I am so glad for this forum as I was feeling so down about my eating with these braces!! I will have a talk with my Ortho at my next appointment and hope ...

I can really relate. It has been three weeks and my chewing is not at all normal. I have 4 bicuspid holes and my molars don't meet. And I swear that in the last week my front teeth have shifted so that chewing is even harder. I go to the ortho in 12 days and boy do I have questions for him!! I have ...

Just wanted you to know that I am an older patient. It is nice to hear from people like you. I had been contemplating braces for years but with three kids I just couldn't see putting money in my mouth! Finally the kids are out of braces so it is my turn. It has been an adventure so far and I know I ...

I am still unable to chew well myself. For me a little food processor has been the difference. I grind up all my meat--cooked pork, ham, hot dog etc. At least this way I am fixing only one meal that my husband and I can both eat. His is served regular and mine is ground up. Cooked cauliflower is goo...

Bianca we were braced the same day and I know exactly what you are feeling. I still can't chew very much--not from pain--but because of the back teeth alignment. I have my first adjustment Feb 13 and none too soon. I have a LOT of questions--like when am I going to be able to eat meat again! The Ort...

Gemini,
I too think that not being able to eat properly or very well really makes you feel down. I would have to say its my main complaint. I just hope it gets better with time!!!

Cute story--I did not go back to work either the same day to get used to the braces--talking and such. My coworkers have been very supportive and that has made a huge difference in how I feel about myself.

It's been one week for me too. I am also always looking for the littlest change. For me it would be a closing of the extraction holes. I feel like my teeth are getting pulled together instead of apart --I have crowded teeth. I also have an incisor that sticks out and I want that to go back in. I ,li...

Welcome to the board and good luck. Having 4 teeth pulled with a local anesthetic was easy--but I did get one dry socket and that was a pain. I got my braces on within 2 weeks of the extractions. They haven't been too painful but I can't chew very well as my molars don't meet. That has been very fru...

Glad to know there are more of us old folks around. I'm in my late 40's and really feel strange about the whole thing. I showed my kids today--they are away at college. They really didn't say much, guess they figure I'm old enough to do what I want. http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/4;10711;116...

My Ortho wouldn't put ceramic on the bottom because he said the ceramic is harder on your top teeth's enamel if they rub against the lower brackets.

I can relate to your pain. :( Had my braces put on yesterday too. Wondering what have I done and will I ever eat anything but mush!!! I know it will be worth it in the end though. Today all of my front teeth ache top and bottom. With 4 bicuspids gone there's no turning back. We can only hope it gets...

Thanks for the replies. I guess misery does love company. This site has already been a boost for me. :) Nice to know that others are in the same boat as me! To answer your question I had ceramic brackets put on top and metal on the bottom.

Braces on yesterday

Feeling a little down today. The braces went on yesterday and I have found that I can't really chew. To back up a little I had 4 bicuspids removed Dec 28. No problem there except for the dry socket 3 days later. :( Chewing was hard with the four missing spacesbut at least I could. Now my molars don'...
