Essix vs Hawley

Hey Everyone, I got my braces off a few weeks ago after about 17 months. Ortho gave me Essix retainers and said I only needed to wear at night. Well.... that makes me VERY nervous so I have chosen to wear them as often as possible. Here are my questions: 1. Do Essix retainers stain? I had clear brac...

Re: Switching to metal brackets (anyone done it?)

I did not switch but can definitely understand your reasoning. I too, feel that I am always talking with a lisp although others have told me they don’t hear it. My ceramic brackets are much larger than my teenager’s metal ones and I think this is why eating is so much harder with food constantly bei...

Contouring

I am nearing the end of treatment with subtle tweaks happening. I am still not entirely happy with the frontal view of my top 4 teeth. The lateral incisors appear to still be slightly behind the centrals although they are definitely aligned from the side view. The ortho has said the appearance is du...

Re: Speed braces

From what I have read, they are purely cosmetic and do not do anything for bite correction. I have also read that sometimes they can do more harm than good. I would definitely do my research.... everyone’s case is different and it might be fine for some and not for others. Good luck!

IPR????!

In finishing phase and I am not entirely happy with where we are at this point. I still feel that my upper front teeth are not perfectly aligned although ortho and most people say they look great. My front two teeth are very large by comparison to others (sorry don’t know technical names), and the t...

Re: Clarity Braces

Like you, I wanted Invisalign but due to bite issues, I was told that I would need numerous buttons etc on Invisalign and results would never be as good. I decided to go with ceramic as I am a professional and do a lot f speaking in my job. I was originally told the standard 18 to 24 months. I am ab...

Re: Class II elastics causing gaps?

I had a gap form in lowers rather quickly after moving to class 2 heavy elastics with power chain on top. Ortho placed chain on lower and gap closed within 2 weeks. Ortho told me this is to be expected!

Re: Whitening your teeth BEFORE braces?

I am (correction.... WAS) a big red wine/ coffee drinker. Despite this, I Frequently had people tell me how white my teeth were. I occasionally used whitening trays and had a pro whitening done once. Fast forward to ceramic braces....... yuck, my teeth look very yellow to me. (Ligatures stain). I no...

Re: Very new, very scared!

Good Luck to you! It took me a very long time to finally take the plunge but I am so glad I did. Is it easy? NO! Do I hate the way I look in braces? YES! With that being said however, I keep my eye on the end result and know that this time in braces will go by quickly and hopefully I will have that ...

Finishing phase time????

I’m curious as to approximate times for “finishing” stage where fine adjustments etc. are made. I have read that the initial alignment phase generally moves fairly quickly around 6-7 months. The second phase or “bite alignment” I believe typically takes the most amount of time. Does anyone have any ...

Re: Treatment and resultant lisp?

I have developed this as well..... others have not mentioned anything to me about it, but I definitely hear and am conscious of it as I do a lot of speaking in my job🤪

Re: Gaps opening with class 2 elastics

Yes....went to stainless wire about 6 weeks ago but there again, my understanding is that since the stainless is more rigid than niti, there is generally less movement.
