Re: Can a retainer fix a posterior open bite?
I don't blame you Chrissie, I would want that, too. I'm wondering if the ortho I consulted with yesterday doesn't want me as a patient. He still hasn't provided an estimate. I had to call the office to see if he'd written it up yet and so far, he hasn't.

Re: Over 50s -
Wow, those are truly heart-wrenching stories. I think my post was rather insensitive, and for that I do apologize. I didn't notice anything insensitive in the least. No worries. I did go through with the consult, no problem. He said that because of the TMJ issues (I get migraines) and the splint th...

Re: Can a retainer fix a posterior open bite?
I'm not a doc, so could be 100% wrong. Maybe he's thinking the retainer will help settle your bite. You might be able to ask a doc online. There are some websites where docs and lawyers answer your questions for a small fee - like $5.

Clarity SL vs. In-Ovation C?
Does anyone know the difference between the two? Doing a little research on the ortho I'll be visiting for a consult, I'm curious as to why he'd choose one over the other for his patients. I'm sure I'll be able to ask him when the time comes, but I like to be aware of these things in advance. Who kn...

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?
I'm hoping to get them for my 51st birthday, which is coming up rather quickly.

Re: Can a retainer fix a posterior open bite?
Depending on your age, I would be skeptical. If you're young and still have some growth in you, it's possible that could work. If you're finished growing, I'm not convinced it would. In my early 20s, an ortho tried that with me with an anterior repositioning splint and filing down spaces between my ...

Re: How are teeth retracted/pulled back?
My overjet was 12 mm last time I saw an ortho, and he wanted me to have surgery to help correct it.

Re: Over 50s -
Assertives, I'm really glad that you found some healing. Nobody should be subjected to that kind of treatment from their family. We didn't have a lot of physical violence, but the psychological and emotional abuse was pretty toxic for me. No contact has been healing in terms of preventing further ha...

Re: Over 50s -
Well, I just have to say that you all have so much courage and are an inspiration to me in that regard. The truth is, those negative people in our lives would have found some other fault within us to harp on even if we were born with perfect smiles. Mine even faulted me for going to college to bette...

Re: Over 50s -
Here's the thing, the very idea of this fills me with panic and dread to the point that I can't even talk about it with my husband. I think it's my most vulnerable topic of discussion which makes the process incredibly invasive for me. I've had dentists say the most horrible things, things that made...

What made you decide to take the plunge? I'm a borderline surgical class 2 case and have noticed my front teeth getting longer over time from receding gums. I'm not sure if my bite has anything to do with it, but I have a bilateral posterior open bite and get a lot of wear on my back teeth and none ...
