I agree, the surgery is no big deal, but the feelings afterwards are driving me nuts! When I bend over, I feel my palette shift forward and when I swallow and puch on the RPE, it applies pressure and tries to push my teeth out! I had a neat little contraption from the hospital that filled with ice a...

The first few hours with the expander were not too bad, but the longer I went, the more difficult things got. That night,...

Good Morning! It's day two post-SARPE and what a wonderful night we had last night! I slept sitting uprigh tin the bed with about a dozen pillows (my lovely children were glas to share with their daddy!), an ice pack wrapped around my head, a CEPAP machine strapped to my nose, and a big bottle of wa...

Well. I'm home. What an experience! I'm currently still a little loopy from the pain meds, but I'll share a little now about how things went. Arrived at Northside Hospital in Atlanta at 5:30, got a lovely IV margarita at about 7:00 and was wheeled back to surgery around 7:30. Once I climbed onto the...

Pre-op meeting was this Thursday and boy, did I have a lot of questions. Unfortunately, I didn't write them down, so I forgot many of them. I got the most important bits, though. First, I will be completely knocked out during the surgery...Yea! I was afraid I might just be in La-La Land, but I'll be...

I may be really screwing up, but I HATE flossing. I have rarely flossed anthing in my life and my teeth are strong. I knew with braces and things it would be different, so I tried it a few times. Too much time and more annoying than flossing without braces. I shared my concerns with my ortho and she...

So it's been a while since I've posted. Basically it's since not much has been happening. I'm patiently waiting for my surgery date with a beautiful, not yet functional device glued in the roof of my mouth. Although I should be avoiding lots of foods, I seem to be able to handle pretty much anything...

My understanding is that the pallet is solidified around age 16, so anything after that would require surgery to release the pallet from the jaw.

I'm very happy to hear the pain is gone...my motto has always been, "no pain...no pain!" I love the blog and the pictures are cool. I had really no idea what to expect, but after seeing and hearing about your experience, I will have lots of questions for my OS when I go for the pre-op visi...

Le Fort 1

Now that I have scheduled my SARPE surgery, it's time to start thinking about surgery #2 - a Le Fort 1 mandibular advancement...at least I think that's the right term. Basically, the upper jaw is separated and moved forward and secured with little titanium bands and screws. This is the more invasive...
