Thanks for hijacking my board, Brandy! Just kidding, dear. As usual, it seems you have much more information than I do. I didn't know where the separations would be, just that they were done surgically and they would take 6 months to heal. My ortho suggested that some doctors will actually go ahead ...

Great quotes and bits of advice, folks! I've never had any real surgery of any kind, and I'll have two procedures done before this journey is over. The thing that gets me through it all is remembering my sweet wife who, at 31 years of age, was cracked open and had a heart valve repaired. I figure if...

Brandy, Brandy, Brandy...so sorry you are not doing so well. I had my little mouth-toy installed yesterday and the tongue-rub is about the only thing that is not bugging me. As I put in my journal, my ortho explained that when your mouth figures out the appliance is not food, the saliva should stop ...

OK, so the RPE has been installed and what a strange trip it has been so far. My ortho explained that the mouth thinks it's got a bit of food in there, so that's why the salivation has kicked in. Once my mouth understands that we are not eating this thing, the juices should stop flowing. My first me...

OK, it's the end of week two and things are just great. I'm really not enjoying the limited diet. I didn't realize how many crunchy chewy treats I really like. There is very littel discomfort and I can eat pretty much anything, I just don't really want to. Thngs lie Doritos, popcorn, and breakfast c...

Welcome, my dear. I can't wait to hea all the wonderful details of your SARPE. Your "backstory" sounds a lot like mine. I had braces for four years and when the doctors told my mom they wanted to slice a section out of my tongue, break my jaw and wire it shut, the braces cme off. Luckily, ...

Before photo

Starting to figure out the fun stuff to do on this site, so I thought it was time for a "before" photo. This was taken January 30th, the day before getting braced. That's the closest my teeth have come to meeting in 25 years. Only the back two teeth on each side meet and my dentist said sh...

6 days in and things are going well. My students and colleagues got a good chuckle out of my newly acquired hardware. Two students ran up to me first thing Thursday morning and yelled, "Smile!" When I did, they just got the biggest grins and said, "They look so cool!" Nice words ...

MMG, every time I read your posts, I get a good chuckle. I love your bluntness and straight-forward approach to life. I have been accused of being a bit to-the-point myself, but if you don't want to know what I think, don't ask. I'm terribly sorry to hear about the "issues" you've been hav...

So sorry to hear about the problems your having, Lin. I just got braced today (2-1) and so far things are OK. I had an issue with some pokey-thingies on the bottom molar bands, too and asked the tech about it. She said they were hooks for rubber bands that may be needed later and she smashed them do...

The journey has officially begun...

I have returned from the ortho and am now fully braced...yahoo! Ok, not fully braced, but the lowers are completely done and the uppers have been bracketed. The RPE will take care of the upper banding. A mold was done to send off to fabricate the RPE. I will return on March 1 to have the RPE device ...

Just returned from the ortho and I am officially braced...in more ways than one. I have lovely little metal thingies on the tteth with attractive red and black ligs (go dawgs!). I am also bracing myself for the forthcoming surgeries...SARPE the first week of April and Le Forte 1 sometime later. Can'...

I'm scheduled for the wonderful world of mandibular advancement in the near future as well. I've found lots of things online by searching "Le Forte 1." That's the name of the procedure. Haven't found any real pictures yet, but I have seen many illustrations and explanations of what happens...

Brandy, I'm right there with you, dear. I'm headed in tomorrow to put the braces on and be fitted for the expander. I've had braces before, so no big deal...but I've also got the SARPE and a Le Forte procedure looming in the future. I'm not at all excited about the procedures, but I am very excited ...

Here we go...

Spacers went in on January 16th. I have finally gotten used to them and I am eating pretty much normally, but tomorrow, all that changes. From what the ortho's assistant tells me, I'm in for a fun day. I'm going to be braced and fitted for the expander. It takes about four weeks for the engineers to...
