Tongue thrust!
Hi joney , good to see you on the board and nice to have a fellow open-biter around. :D I'm not sure why my orthodontist first suspected a tongue thrust... I think it might be a pretty common cause of open bites though, which is why he sent me to the speech therapist. Basically all she did to diagno...

Back in the saddle again
I disappeared completely from this board for a while because my husband and I were making the always fascinating and chatoic transition between countries...to the U.S. for the summer and then on to our next teaching assignment in Bolivia. I visited three different orthos here and finally settled on ...

Adjustment #4
The teeth continue to move since my last adjustment...yippee! Here's the front view: http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/7153/mayfront3bc.th.jpg Here was my "black hole" view from April (I have an open bite, so when I tilt my head up you can see the "black hole" between my teeth.....

Breastfed, but...
My mom only breast-fed me...but I managed to end up with my dad's crooked teeth and an open bite (despite the fact that I also never sucked my thumb). Luck of the draw, I guess!

Here I Am!
Linda21 , thanks for your reply and I'm sorry it's been so long...I live in China, and stuff like this happens every now and again, but for whatever reason my internet browser suddenly stopped connecting to this site. I haven't been able to access it for nearly a month! You're right--the elastics a...

I'm back
Hi meaw and everyone, I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner--I live in China and for some strange reason, one day last month, my internet browser stopped letting me go to this site. Kind of inexplicable...but I've been checking in periodically and finally today it worked. I'm sorry the extractions were so...

linda21 , thanks so much for your reply. Wow, your box configuration sounds very impressive! I think you're right about wearing them 24-7...but I find myself obsessively searching for signs of progress, and it's only the 4th day since my last adjustment. :) Good luck with your own treatment; I will...

Adjustment #3-April
Due to my orthodontist's somewhat complicated travel schedule, I only had 3 weeks between adjustments this time, and will have to wait 5.5 until my next one. Dr. Martin didn’t seem overly impressed nor disappointed with my progress. He decided to double my elastics to make a triangle, a move he sa...

Interesting!
Kimberley, thank you for pointing that out about the soft foods containing lots of sugar. That's been a major struggle for me, but I never made the connection w/ tiredness. Snacks like crunchy vegetables, tortilla chips with salsa, even bagels or rice cakes, etc., are practically off limits for me a...

MEAW Update
Hi meaw ; just a quick update for you and anyone else who's interested in this treatment...I definitely think these wires affect my appearance and eating more than "normal" braces. In fact, I find myself yearning for the days when I just had an archwire--no elastics or MEAW! I'm only sched...
