Re: Bite off/ teeth not lining up
I had absolutely the same experience. My bite was pretty good before I got braces. The rest of my teeth were terrible though. In order to get the front teeth correctly rotated and lined up, they had to move my back teeth. Like you I was worried that now my bite was wrecked. Forever. I asked my ortho...

Re: Soon to be newbie with clear and metal
It is so worth getting braces! I had ceramics upper and metal lower. They were on for two years. It sounds like a lot, but it went by really fast when I look back on it!
Best of luck to you!

Re: Hello! Braces in mid to late fifties
I’m so happy for you!
I can already see a ton of progress! And I’m glad you went with the traditional braces- I think that is a great choice.
I avoided smiling or having my picture taken for years. So nice to have confidence and to stop hiding!

Re: Hello! Braces in mid to late fifties
I’d do some research on 6 month smiles. It seems like some people have had bad experiences with that. I just finished two years or regular braces. It was only my front teeth that were crooked. But to straighten out the front teeth, you are going to impact the back teeth. You might end up with straig...

Re: Got Braces in College at 21
I agree! Nobody really notices adults in braces...other than to say 'Oh, I thought something looked different about you but I didn't know what' (after you tell them about your braces.) Hold your head high ....the time goes fast, and at the end of it you will have a beautiful smile. One other tip. Af...

Re: Deep bite
I had a deep bite. I did not have bite blocks or anything extra. The deep bite was corrected through the wires....I believe it is the 'reverse curve' process someone else mentioned. The net effect was that my lower molars where slloooowwwwllllyyy raised (extruded). I know it sounds gross and painful...

Ok - I get it -- you want to learn about braces, or see if what you are experiencing is normal. I have been through two years of braces and just got de-bonded this week. (That is the official term for getting your braces off!) Anyways, I read this forum A LOT during that time. It was really helpful,...

Re: Black Triangles?
I had my teeth 'shaved' a little bit. It is called Inter Proximal Reduction. I was able to eliminate the black triangle on one side, but still have a little one on the other. There is a delicate balance between how much you can 'shave' off to improve the look, without taking off too much -- which co...

Re: Slightly OT, looking for gum graft recovery information
You have probably had your gum surgery by now -- but I just saw the post! How did it go? Did they use the tissue from your palate? Do you know if you had a full thickness graft or a partial? I had one of each, and the recovery was a little bit different for each. For me, I had a really hard time tal...

Re: Hello! Braces in mid to late fifties
Hi - I have been lurking on here for the past couple of years, but never felt like I had anything to offer. I am also in my mid-fifties, and JUST got de-braced this week! I had them on for just over two years. It sucked a bit, but it was totally worth it! I really wish I would have done this decades...

Why are some permanent retainers affixed to every tooth?
Hi - Just got my braces off and have a permanent retainer behind the lower teeth. Talking to others, it seems some people have the lower retainer anchored to the canines (which is what I have) and some have it glued to the canines as well as the four lower incisors. Anyone know why? Is it just a dif...
