Re: Are masks helping you cope with braces??

Absolutely! I'd been thinking about braces for years but I was finally ready to take the plunge last summer knowing that I can hide behind a mask for a while. I'm 5 months in and they've straightened out a bit now but to be honest, the first few months had a lot of wonky things going on with my bite...

Re: First time braces - age 36

It's been going well so far! It's now been 5 months and while I still have a long way to go, I've already made quite a lot of progress, so that is really encouraging. I don't have any springs or spacers or anything so far, though I did have to get extractions. That was probably the worst part! Disco...

Seriously? Bracket fell off already - 2nd day

Ugh, it's only day 2 and I already dislodged a bracket. :( I was eating, but nothing weird...just some soft bread and cheese in small pieces. It's a Saturday so I have to wait until Monday to call them. It's so annoying, the bracket is just floating there on the wire and keeps getting turned around....

Re: Anxiety about food restrictions

Thank you for the feedback! I just got my braces on today, and so far I don't have any pain but I haven't attempted to eat anything yet. (Thinking about dinner now...) Here's the GOOD NEWS (for now): For whatever reason, the ligatures were not put on today. (Maybe because I need to get teeth extract...

Re: Anxiety about food restrictions

Is that just from the pain? I still think the clear ones are worth it but this might just become the worst thing about this experience...

Anxiety about food restrictions

I've been preparing for braces by reading up about food restrictions, and it's pretty concerning. I've elected to do the clear brackets on the top, which means I also have to worry about staining! I love curry, and that seems to be a big no-no for clear braces. Obviously no more popcorn...and I eat ...

Re: Extractions, nervous

I'm getting my braces put on tomorrow and they expect extracting 3 teeth for me as well. I'm also pretty nervous about this. I'd gone to get a second opinion and they wanted to extract 4 teeth! The one I ended up choosing says 3 because my top midline is slightly off and they want to correct that by...

First time braces - age 36

Hello! I've been lurking as a non-member but decided to join because you seem like a friendly, active community. :D As the subject says, I'm 36 and getting orthodontics for the first time TOMORROW. Clear brackets on top, metal braces on the bottom. I'm nervous but excited to finally be taking steps ...
