I got my expander around the same time as you, but it is one that I must manually turn every day. Lately I've had some pain in one area of my teeth, where it seems the expander is pushing the teeth out more than the others. One of the expander "arms" has actually slipped up past the tooth-...

Expander acting up...

For about a week or so, my expander has been making a clicking noise whenever I turn it. Tonight, it made a clicking noise and then a sort of crunching noise. I noticed the metal parts behind it kind of jiggle as I turned it. Could my expander be broken? I still feel pressure when I turn it, but I d...

When I went in for my last adjustment he tried turning the key and it didn't click. Since then, it keeps clicking when I turn it, but I see the new hole and I feel pressure as it expands. It's weird. Maybe it's the way I'm sticking in the key? It might be slipping on something in there as I turn it...

Buffy , I am 22 years old and I just recently got braces. I was also worried about how I would look at my age with braces. To tell you the truth, it hasn't been that bad. Most people don't even notice them. I'm worried that its going to affect my relationship (affecting my ability to participate in...

There are other ways to correct over-bites other than headgear. My ortho has me using a palate expander right now to see if we can't fix it through simple expansion of my upper palate (roof of my mouth). After that, if it still is too much of an overbite, he is going to do extractions of molars. Thi...

Expander Blues :(

I've had my expander for a week now (upper.. the one that looks like an X) and I'm really discouraged about the speech impediment it causes. I had a very slight lisp with braces, but this thing adds a huge noticeable difference to the way I talk. I really hate it. One of the assistant's at my ortho'...

I'm in Canada, so I know what you mean. If you ever need conversions, you can simply go to google.com and type "oz to g" or whatever you need and you will get the conversion rate. It's a pain in the butt, but it works.

Kana , hang in there! It sounds like your dental problems are a major contributor to your emotional state. You've already taken the most important step to fixing it: getting braced! From here on out, it's only going to get better. Every day your teeth will be moving and looking better and better. Y...

I also find myself "critiquing" people's smiles. It's not that I'm being shallow and judging them, but I'm more curious to see what 'perfect' teeth look like, and I hope to have teeth like that. My ortho told me that I'd start to check out people's teeth after I got my braces, and he was r...

Consult: $60

Final Analysis: $100
Down payment: $440
+23 monthly payments of $200

Grand Total: $5400

If my expansion doesn't work out like it should, I will most likely have to have 3-4 teeth extracted. I guess that adds another $500-$600 to that.

Do you honestly believe the millions of teenagers every year who have orthodontic treatment that results in fantastic teeth don't snack :?: Also that they brush after they've snacked :?: Snacking has never been a problem for me ... and I don't think it ever will be! Those millions of teenagers with...
