I've had awful teeth since I was young, and my single mother could never afford to put me in braces. I was constantly teased by other kids in school, my brother, and even my mother's ex-husband (he was a real jackass, and they divorced years ago). I went through grade school, high school, and most o...

Awhile before I got braces I started a very careful recording process of all the food I eat as well as my exercise. This has helped me to keep a very regular schedule of the types and quality of food, as well as to make sure that I am not eating more than I am burning. I've lost 10lbs in a month whi...

Lucy, can I ask why no snacking now? I'm only three days in, but aside from having to clean my teeth after every meal there is no reason I can't snack. Just wondering what the reason is? Just the prospect of having to go clean my teeth for 30 minutes after eating some chips just turns me off of the...

My last adjustment was awful because my lower four insicors had way too much pressure on them. I had noticed some looseness before the appointment, and when she removed the archwire the teeth were extremely wiggly. It reminded me of when I was a kid and my baby teeth would be loose. When the next ar...

I feel your pain! I just got my molar bands in a few days ago and I don't like them one bit. It didn't help matters that I got a nice palett expander the same day! Anyway, I don't think you should be doing anything to your bands. You not only risk damaging your teeth but your ortho may charge you ex...

Ive been washing my mouth out with soap and water every day for weeks, so my mouth should be clean. Although i have been swearig alot lately. My gu...

dena, this past appointment they put in my expander and changed the wire. Next appointment, I think it is just changing the wire again. I don't know why they are so frequent. I'm not complaining :)

I havn't had my premolars taken out yet. We're still waiting to see how this expander works before we extract. I did have my wisdom teeth taken out, in doses! I had one really bad one on my top row that had to come out immeadiately, and then the last 3 were removed months later. Having a routine ext...

I just rehosted your images on another server. I think the one you used is being picky about direct linking, because I'm getting broken link symbols with yours. In any event, your progress is encouraging :)

I'd imagine it happens all the time! Just think, dentists/orthos/assistants have their hands in people's mouths for hours every day... it's only logical they get bit every now and then! I'll bet they have a "severed digit" clause on their insurance policy :P I almost did bite my ortho AND ...

Re: *cheer* first adjustment was today

(glad I went to mcdonalds right after the wire went in, got some solid food at the last moment :P ) I wouldn't exactly call that solid food ;) In any case, glad you are seeing changes for the better. I had my first adjustment yesterday, although it was after only 1.5 weeks. My next one is next week...

Tara , I recommend that you take Advil for the pain as opposed to Tylenol. Advil (Ibuprofen) is an anti-inflammatory which is recommended for dental pains. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is a muscle relexant and is not really suited for this type of pain. Aside from pills, have you looked into a local ane...

Brandy , the key is way too big to drop it anywhere in your mouth. Picture a tool the length of a toothbrush with a little metal piece at the end that resembles a bent paperclip. I feel for you though, just as soon as you start getting used to talking with just braces, you're going to have a whole ...
