Re: Recent deband and tooth shifted, can Hawley correct this?

I know this thread is old, but I've had something similar happen with my lower left 1st premolar and lateral incisor forming a small gap due to the way my lower Hawley retainer wire was pushing down between those teeth, which was noticed at my 1 year retainer check appointment on 5/16/2024. My ortho...

Re: New Hawleys Retainer

You should probably see your orthodontist and have the Hawley adjusted. I've been in a similar situation where my (transposed) lower left lateral incisor shifted a little bit and developed a slight gap between it and my 1st premolar, though it's not a very noticeable gap and my orthodontist was able...

Re: Best way to clean a clear retainer - hints and tips please!

i just use a toothbrush and some water. The toothbrush really helps to remove all the debris caught in them.

Re: Smile Direct Club Has Filed for Bankruptcy

The fact that Smile Direct Club's business model is based on just creating a series of aligners for their clients without an orthodontist being involved in the process should be a clear sign that Smile Direct Club is a scam (though sadly, many people out there seem to have easily fallen for their sc...

Re: Do you have fillings?

I've recently had 3 more composite fillings done (all in the lower left quadrant of my mouth) from small cavities I developed while I was still in braces. Interestingly enough, I even developed a small cavity where one of my first molar bands used to be.

Re: Essix retainers!!

I found them to be uncomfortable at first, but I've slowly been adjusting to having them. I got my braces off on May 4th and got the retainers the same day.

I also have Essix retainers and my bite also feels odd when I take them out to eat or brush my teeth.

Re: I feel ready to quit...

It's March 2023 and I've decided to just stick through with the treatment plan. It can feel frustrating at times, but I know it will be worth it in the end.

I feel ready to quit...

I've had my upper and lower braces on for almost 3 years and I've reached the point where I'm ready to quit having braces, particularly since my teeth have mostly straightened out by now and by the time I see my orthodontist again on November 17th, my lower left canine should be completely aligned w...

Re: Confess your orthodontic sins.

Also, I've recently decided to go ahead and get my lip pierced like I've been wanting to since April 2020. My right snakebite is healing perfectly fine, but I'll have to get the left snakebite redone once the hole is fully closed and healed since the jewelry unfortunately fell out while I was asleep...

I've heard something about it slowing down tooth movement, but I haven't personally had any problems from taking ibuprofen throughout my orthodontic treatment.

Re: Brackets on second molars

I got my lower 2nd molar bands a few days ago, although I'm surprised it was done so late into treatment. I still haven't gotten the upper ones yet though.

I got my lower ones a few months before the upper ones. As for the pain, the upper ones were more painful to me.

Re: permanent retention or removable retention??

It depends on whether you've had interproximal cavities or not, since having a fixed lingual retainer will make it harder to floss since you can't remove it, whereas you can easily remove Essix retainers when you brush and floss your teeth and put them back in when you're done. Not being able to flo...

Re: powerchain pain?

Powerchains are painful when you first get them, but they'll eventually stop giving you pain as your mouth gradually gets used to them. I remember when powerchains were painful for me in February 2020 when I first got them, but now they aren't painful at all.
