Thank you, Candygrrrl! After re-reading my post, I feel like such a whiner, but I'm glad someone can relate! I'll definately keep working with the wafer and just do it in private so no one can see me weep pathetically!

I agree with some of the others. Definately talk to the ortho and ask not to be scheduled with them anymore. We are paying a lot of money for treatment and it can only be expected that we be treated with professionalism, and most of all, respect. When I schedule my future appointments, the office ma...

Yet another question about spacers and pain!

I got spacers on the top on Feb. 9th. Wore them until Feb. 21st, when I had a distal jet put on. The distal jet is completely awful! It's huge and I still don't talk plain. I've been called Cindy Brady more times than I care to count. Anyway, back to the point. I hated the spacers and I hate the dis...

Well, I got the spacers out, the distal jet put in, and now I have to go back in for spacers on the bottom. Yippee. Then, on the 16th, I get the full set of ceramics put on. I feel like there is so much crap in my mouth as it is. I have gone from :D to  Anyone else feel so up and down? And ple...

This site is wonderful. It actually helped me make the decision to get braces. I read the forums for a while and decided it would be a breeze since I had this "support group" available. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess it is pretty common, just nothing seems to take the edge off. Granted, they aren't debilitating, but they make me irritable (I'm a redhead, so adding irritable to hot-tempered is not so good for the hubby!) My braces aren't even on yet, so I can imagine what ...

Anyone getting headaches?

I don't have braces on yet, but I have a distal jet (molar distalizer) and I have had a headache ever since (this is day 4). My teeth don't hurt at all, which surprises me because the spacers were murder, but I can't get rid of this nasty headache. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks a bunch, HeadgearJoe! My husband says it looks like a space ship in my mouth. There's no screw in the palate as those pictures show - it looks kind of like a retainer (but thicker) and it's cemented to the palate. It's a pain in the rear and I can't talk plain, but I'll take it anyday over sp...

Actually, I may have jumped the gun on the two week thing. I'm getting my braces on in two weeks and assumed this thing was turning into just a retainer at that point. Not sure, but I paid extra for clear braces, so I hope these big silver things are gone soon. Good luck with your patients!! My spee...

HELP! I can't talk plain!

Oh boy! I got the distal jet put on yesterday (I guess it's like a pendulum) and I am having the HARDEST time talking! The bad thing is, I'm on the phone all day. I sound like a big moron. I doubt anyone is taking me seriously and all of our patients keep asking me to repeat myself. My boss is getti...

I had it put on yesterday. Not too bad, actually. I'll take it over spacers anyday, but I can't talk plain. Yippee, and I'm on the phone all day! I get the full set of ceramics in two weeks. Yay! Thanks for your response!

I did search it, but didn't get too much info on it. Just research that explains the pros/cons of the distal jet vs. headgear, etc. Seems to work pretty well, but I still didn't learn much about pain, how long you have to wear it, etc. Thanks so much for your responses! I'm actually getting it put o...

No, I have a very small mouth, so this was my only other option besides getting 4 teeth pulled, or getting my palate expanded through surgery (no thanks!) The distal jet is supposed to move the back molars back quite a ways to create more room. I don't know if it's a new appliance or what, because n...

I'm guessing I'm alone with the distal jet, then. Lucky me!
