I only ever developed 3 wisdom teeth, and all of them turned out to be severely impacted. I had the 2 lower ones surgically removed, which involved cutting into the gums and jawbone. The "15-minute nap" description is pretty accurate - I was out cold for the whole thing, didn't feel or rem...

Like others who posted here, I seemed to need wax for the first week or so, then my need for it lessened. I haven't used any wax at all for the past couple weeks. I did a lot of warm salt water rinses, which helped tremendously. Like others have said - you use the wax when you need it, however long ...

I'm surprised someone at your ortho's office didn't show you how to floss. Those plastic hoop things are called "threaders", and you take your regular floss, and thread it through the "eye" of the threader, then stick the threader under your archwire in order to get the floss bet...

I will not need any extractions. I have crowding, but I have plenty of room to eliminate the crowding by flaring the teeth outward. My teeth were crowded and slanted inward (rather than outward). I am in this same situation. My teeth are crowded, but they tip inward. By tipping them outward (well, ...

Hi Yoda! Don't worry, it does get better! I felt that way when I got my braces on a couple weeks ago. I couldn't eat anything, I was so sore, I couldn't bite down... but you do get used to them and the pain subsides. Hang in there! :)

When a tooth starts aching out of nowhere....

...does it mean that tooth is getting ready to make a move? All of the sudden, my top right canine is really achy. Which is so random because it doesn't seem that far out of line to me. I would have expected the more crooked teeth to start moving first? I clearly have no orthodontical knowledge (and...

Oh yeah, chocolate is definitely *not* off limits for me. No way could I go 21 months without chocolate! I eat a little bit of dark chocolate daily, and always brush my teeth afterward. And I am very much looking forward to this year's selection of Easter candies... I looooove Cadbury Creme ...

Well... I eat all those things with my braces on. ;) Except granola - I haven't tried that yet, but my granola of choice is not very crunchy/hard, so I don't think it will be a problem for me. Brownies are awesome for braces because they're so soft. Peanut butter, another great food for braces. Cere...

Hi Kourtney! I got braced on March 1. :-) I can't answer your question about expanders and spacers, as I didn't have either of those things. But rest assured, the "installation" is not bad at all. I was pretty nervous, but it ended up being a breeze. Good luck, and welcome to the forums! :D
