Becky, it's good to know I'm not alone. I'm sorry you had to go through braces 3 times! Wow! Amazing how good our teeth's memories are, huh? ;)

Teeth shifting even with bonded wire retainer???

Anyone have this happen? I have had my braces off since last July. I got a bonded wire retainer on my bottom teeth, and I have an Essix retainer for the top. My top teeth are fine, but one of my bottom front teeth is starting to twist back to its old position. My dental hygienist actually noticed it...

Just got my braces off today. They took impressions right after the braces came off in the morning, then I went back in the afternoon (8 hours later) and got my fixed retainer on the bottom, and Essix retainer for the top.

So, short answer - same day. :)

I can finally add my input to this thread, as I just got my braces off this morning (after a 17 month treatment). :D It didn't hurt a bit. I was all worked up, thinking it was going to feel horrible, but it was really a piece of cake. I had ceramic (sapphire) brackets on top and titanium on the bott...

Well, the wishy-washy answer is "it depends". :) But if it's any consolation, my teeth moved tremendously during the first 6 weeks. It was gradual (didn't happen all in the first 2 weeks), but definitely noticeable. It helps to take pictures of your teeth, maybe every week or two in the be...

Skip - don't worry, it's not unusual to not get all your brackets on at once! I just got my last 2 brackets put on a month ago, after 8 months in braces. My orth bracketed all but 4 of my teeth on the first day - leaving the four 2nd molars unbracketed. After my teeth began to spread a bit, he brack...

Allergy/sensitivity to archwire?

Hi everyone! I did a search on this topic but there were only a few posts regarding nickel allergies. I was hoping to get some thoughts/advice on something before I call up my ortho about this... I've had my braces on for 9 months now, but just recently, I've started developing some localized areas ...

I haven't lost any weight as a result of having braces. I had no problem finding soft things to eat while my teeth were sore, and the soreness didn't last very long. Now I eat just like I did before braces. :)

I have the same feeling as Way Too Old For This... nothing makes my teeth feel squeaky clean like the Waterpik. I LOOOOVE my Waterpik! I use it at least twice a day. I also brush 3 times a day, and floss at night. The Waterpik does an outstanding job of getting gunk off from around the brackets and ...

Oh my! That does sound terrible! I haven't had the pleasure of having elastics (yet), so I can't completely identify, but I think I would go crazy not being able to open my mouth very far. The good news is it's only 6 weeks. That's not so bad in the grand scheme of things, right? :)

It's not a silly question. It sounds like your archwire needs to be trimmed. It's common for the archwire to stick further out of the last bracket as your teeth move. When this happens, it has a tendency to poke and cause great discomfort. All you need to do is call your ortho and get a quick appoin...

That's a very interesting history lesson - thanks for sharing! :)

My ortho's practice is 25% adults. His office is very elegant and professional - there's no "kiddy stuff" anywhere. I feel really comfortable there, even when there's a preteen sitting in the chair next to me. ;)
