I just got powerchains for the first time, although I'm not sure why. :? I don't really have any gaps. I guess it's just to keep any from forming. The damon brackets don't need ligs, but they can be put on. My ortho puts them on, which is cool cuz I get to pick different colors! An assistant said it was mainly for comfort.

I have damon 3s and my ortho still puts ligs on. One of the assistants said it was mostly for comfort. They also said that I don't have to have them if I don't want them. I get them though so I can pick colors!!
I'd ask your ortho about the ligs and different colors for the powerchain.
