FINALLY got a brace day!!

I haven't posted in a while because I've been waiting for a brace date and haven't had much news to report. I've been wearing a night splint since April and have gone in about every 8 weeks for checkups. My last checkup was last week at which time my ortho finally said I would be ready to set a date...

I'm basically in the same boat you are. I found out I was pregnant shortly after my first consultation (which was back in April). I've been wearing a splint for TMJ issues since then to help my jaw pain before I get braced. I am due to have an appointment on July 19th and will hopefully get my space...

thanks for the support!

Thanks to everyone who has posted replies to me! I really appreciate the feedback and the moral support. This website has been really informational to me, and knowing that other adults have made the decision to be braced makes it a little easier to face for myself. I'll keep you all posted once I se...

getting cold feet

I'm a newbie here and haven't posted in awhile. I'm 36 and currently being treated with a splint at night for TMJ issues. I started treatment about 1-1/2 months ago after a consultation with an orthodontist my dentist recommended. This ortho suggested splint therapy for 6-8 months followed by both t...

Thanks for the input!

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It definitely helps to hear what other people have gone through with consultations and treatment. I actually saw an orthodontist about 7 years ago for a TMJ-related problem (I was having a lot of jaw pain---probably due to stress). I wore a splint at the time to ...

A little scared!

I went to my dentist a week ago for my regular cleaning/checkup. I have worn a nightguard for years for teeth grinding. (I've chipped 2 teeth within the last year because of it). My dentist suggested that I see an orthodontist who could help correct my bite. :( I wore braces in Jr. High (I am now 35...

I just called for my first consult. Thre receptionist told me there is no charge for the consultation (ortho examines my teeth/bite/etc.) explains what might need to be done. When I go for my records appointment (all x-rays/photos/moulds) I will pay $350.00, which gets credited towards my treatment....

Thanks for the replies!

Thanks to everyone who replied! I definitely want to hear my dentist's opinion, but plan to pursue a consultation with an orthodontist either way. I actually saw an orthodontist several years ago for a splint (i had a mild case of TMJ) and he recommended braces at that time. Unfortunately, I didn't ...

Thinking about getting braces

I'm new to this site, but I've been considering braces for the last couple of years. I was braced for the first time in Jr. High but didn't wear my retainer like I should have. Of course, after having all 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed about 12 years ago, I noticed my teeth have gradually been shif...
