I've smoked for most of my life, I began at an early age. I have quit twice in the past, the longest time being 15 months. I no longer beat myself up about it, there are enough other people to do that. I would never encourage anyone to smoke, it would be wonderful if we could all quit, but it's impo...

I'm 49 and have had my brces since May 3rd. I felt a little awkward a first but now (other than those times my upper lip gets stuck on a hook) I'm very comfortable with being braced. But I'm not single so I can understand that it might be an issue when you're still meeting people. And to those peopl...

Spacers are definately uncomfortable. Are you rinsing with warm salt water? This will help. Soft food for a few days will keep you from having to chew. I had discomfort for about a week with my spacers. It will gradually decline. Then it will be time for braces on, and again discomfort for a week or...

So sorry you're having so much trouble with your lowers. pain is very stressful to the body. As for feeling self conscious about my braces....I refuse to be embarassed, I've spent 40 of my 48 years being ashamed of my teeth. We all do what we need to do to feel good about ourselves and if 3 yrs in b...

The braces are on, Yeh!
My braces went on Tuesday. Not so bad, Wednesday was some what uncomfortable, but the Advil helped. So far today I haven't taken anything. I'm hoping to get better at the flossing, Tuesday night was hysterical. I actually had myself in a sweat and still had2 spots that were unflossed. I'm not having...

Bands on yesterday
6 bands on yesterday plus 2 more spacers to make room for another band. So far so good today. No real discomfort. I have 2 spots I can't floss, I'm not sure if the bands are that close or if it's glue between. Soft foods today, chewing anything just takes more energy and concentration than I want to...

Spacers put in on Tuesday
My spacers (8) went in on Tuesday. This morning every tooth in my mouth is tender. I found great relief in brushing this morning, the Sonicare felt like a gum massage. I'm taking 1 Advil about every 12 hrs. Seems to be helping the discomfort. Maypo for breakfast, easy to eat ...just gulp and swallow...

48 and finally getting braces
Hello to all. This is my first post although I've been viewing this web site all winter. I decided to investigate braces last summer and I've been working with a periodontist to get my gums in shape. Two rounds of grafting, one in Jan and one in Feb. It's now just a matter of healing till the spacer...
