Salad. I LOVE salad, but man, I never thought that lettuce could work its way through and around all that metal like that. It's like it's braided in there! If it doesn't get woven through my braces, it lays flat against my gums and I have a heck of a time trying to inconspicuously de-suction it from...

Expander removal

I've read a lot of posts about having brackets removed, but don't recall reading about expander removal. Can anyone let me know how it went for them? I know that thing is cemented in there and I'm wondering how much tugging/pulling/yanking is involved to get it out. Mine is only attached to two mola...

A funny thing happened today

Had a funny thing happen today at work. I've been braced on top for almost three months now. A guy that I see almost every day asked me at lunch when I had gotten braces because he hadn't noticed till today. He joked off-hand that I must have been hiding them. Not ten minutes later another guy that ...

MrsDantel ~ I have lots of hope! I've had top brackets for about 2 1/2 months. I really went in just for my midline. I HATED it! I was not even worried about the bottoms at all, even though they were obviously jacked up (as I like to say--lol). But, of course, I soon learned that you can't just move...

Wow! Your smile looks great! Looking at your "Before" reminds me so much of my own smile... My #7 was tucked behind #8 just like yours, and that lower canine overlapped in exactly the same way, both canines, in fact, just like yours. Midline off, too. Unfortunately my #6 (canine) was impac...

I think at least part of the reason I have lost some weight is because it takes me so long to eat sometimes. I sometimes feel full before I finish even half of my meal, depending on what I'm eating, whereas before I would just eat without being very mindful. I have more weight to lose anyway, so the...

I've had to wear metal spacers twice on top (nothing on the bottom so far) and they were very uncomfortable and quite painful. I was very sore and it was extremely difficult to eat. Next to spacers, the braces have been a breeze! So far anyway! No adjustments yet, just an expander... Always amazed t...

I have lost about 10 pounds since getting braced and whenever I do lose weight I usually notice it in my face a bit, but this time it seems like my cheekbones are more pronounced than when I've lost a few pounds in the past. I do wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that my face is getting ...

When I used to see kids in braces I would be a little bit jealous and wish my parents had gotten me braces. When I used to see adults in braces (even up to a year or two ago) I would think it must be weird to have them as an adult and sometimes I would even think, "Why are they doing that? It's...

I have a one-tooth crossbite and I've had an expander for about a month. It moved that top tooth right in line. Now the teeth don't come together because the tooth below it is still "tilted out." I'll be happy when I get my bottom braces. I don't know how that bottom tooth is going to get ...

Can't wait for powerchains! Question...

Another topic discussing powerchains reminded me of a question I wanted to post... About 3 1/2 weeks ago, I got an expander. I'm done turning now and that tooth is in line (only 14 turns, once a day for 14 days) and I'm happy about that. At the same appointment, the ortho told his assistant, "L...

The main reason I have always wanted braces is because of my midline, so I definitely sympathize with your frustration. I'm glad you decided to go ahead and be a little more "determined" with your ortho, since from the way you describe it he doesn't seem very concerned. Good luck! :)

Ok, I looked, but I didn't find anything to tell me what you meant by "that clicking thing." Is that when you push your tooth with your tongue and you can hear that sound in your head?

Well, I hope no one thinks I'm bitter or anything (!), but one of the things I am really looking forward to is the look on my ex-husband's face when he sees my beautiful, white, straight-teeth smile. Although every one of my friends and acquaintances said, "Oh, I didn't even realize you needed ...
